Does anyone know how Boston got that amazing acoustic sound in some of their songs like: More Than A Feeling, Peace Of Mind, etc.?

Sounds layered but also something else. It's obviously a nice acoustic guitar but it just sounds different and I've always wondered how they did that. I think Tom Scholz produced/engineered the songs himself? Maybe there's an interview somewhere where he says how he got some of the acoustic sounds?

Well, More Than a Feeling starts with a 12-string... if they're tuned right they always sound great. ;)

It might be multitracked and hard-panned too, but I can't remember right now. Probably unlikely also because I beleive they only recorded the Boston album on 12 or 16 track tape--the CD booklet tells... I remember it saying that 90% of the album was only a demo. A record exec heard it and had to release it.

Yea he probably double-tracked the 12 string on More Than A Feeling. Sounds like there might be a slight chorus kind of effect on there too, but that could be phase or something because it's pronounced when listened in mono. I don't know.

I remember hearing he layered the acoustic on "Peace of Mind" with 5 different guitars or something, and also an electric.

Anyone have info about this?

Edit: Well, I found this:

MG: What kind of 12-string acoustic did you use on "More Than a Feeling"?

SCHOLZ: That was a $100 Yamaha. When the band was first signed, the so-called "band" went to L.A., booked studio time, and went into the studio every week. They stayed out there as a cover, pretending to record the album, while I recorded the album back home in Massachusetts in my basement studio. There is only one song on the album that was recorded in L.A., which is the last song on side two, "Let Me Take You Home Tonight." While Brad was in L.A., they bought him a custom-made 12-string that was $2000, and, meanwhile, I'm back in my basement with a $100 Yamaha, recording a track that's going to sell about 20 million records! I wish I still had that guitar! [laughs]

But couldn't find anything about the other song

I was in New Orleans a few years ago at guiitar center there and tried out all the acoustic guitars there. I chose a yamaha acoustic over all of them including $2000 Martins and Gibsons. Yamaha puts out some fine sounding acoustics but you need to shop around to find one of them.

The album is one of the best sounding EVAR.

Really, it sounds good anywhere. I love it.

I agree with the Yamaha props, I've got one of their acoustics that I love.

BOSTON.

i third the Yamaha mention... i did a bunch of store comparisons and i wound up keeping what I have.

I can't afford to buy just for a brand name, especially when they don't sound any better.

i never sold 20million records though with my Yamaha, I probably have the wrong model?
