Bossa Nova

The percussion, bass and flute are from the "Blacko" track recently posted by Tonio.

I added rhythm gtr, and I'm trying to balance out this section of the tune, where I've added 3 gtrs.

(EDIT: This is just one verse of a longer arrangement)

Wow...the whole thing sounds awesome. Very nice guys....very nice. It's extremely clean, and natural sounding. Great playing all around.

I agree with Dogman - this is a great collab. You've blended the guitars in there really well. Real pro sounding recording and mix..... Playing is top notch also....

:D :) :D :)

ridiculously good guys
Playing is great and nothing sticks out over anything else.
Ends kind of abrupt  Sounds like a piece you could really extend and mix around some melodies with.
Very nice listen ;)

Thanks Dogman. The percussion's really sweet and clear and I think the mix leans on that aspect a lot. I'm curious about Tonio's studio setup. Tonio if you drop in, do you have any studio pics?

Not too much low mids on the combined gtrs? That's what I was wrestling with. Thanks ido.

I should have faded in and out so it'd put it in context. Thanks for the comments Snake.

The three guitars are blended extremely well!

I look forward to hearing the entire piece.

Love this song Tim. It is rich and enchantingly leading, to the swaying of hips...simple steps forward and back, while intimately caressing one's own tummy....other hand outstretched in an elegant wave of movement, like that of a flowing banner of soft cloth in the air. :D

Kudos Tim and Tonio.

This is very elegant so long as no one puts a Santana screamer over the top.
The intertwining guitars along with th flute line are pure synchromesh.
Oh, & True, apart from the excellent discourse on the evocative spirit of the music you also have a good beginning to a VERY racey novella in those few lines.

Sorry to be out of touch so long. Been a hell of a weekend.

True - Your scenic descriptions are always the most rewarding part of posting tunes.

rayc - Thanks my friend. So I guess I'd better hold off on the wailing elec gtr part I was gonna post next, heh-heh.

Thanks everybody. This was a sort of "pre-production file" to work out the guitar sound before I send my files off to Tonio who will be using the parts in whatever ways fit the needs if the arrangement. It was very helpful to get feedback on the overall sonority balance so I can be more sure I'm not sending him parts that will be hard to mix. :)

Imho

Excellent playing. Maybe too forward for the flute. Place rhythm guitar behind or beneath the flute. Single note lines pan away from the flute so as not to step on the melody and bring in and out around the melody. This tune calls for sublety and sensitivity in the balance of the instruments. IMHO

Why thank you Tim.

The heart of a player leads me to these descriptive scenes, and once more your heart has not been lost. Tonio also.

I am looking forward to hearing the final mix on this Bossa Nova. :)

a lot of mids in a cool old school way that fits the style. There are some seemingly hard panned rhythm elements that are just a touch disconcerting, but i'm %100 sure it's just because I'm listening on headphones. Yep, no real complaints on anything here. Great job.

The Spanish guitar is nice. Mix sounds fine here. It's all very restfull and relaxing in an extremely groovy kind of way

Beautifull, just beautifull.

I can see it for me the table is set, Its night but the air is moist warm (not cold like now). I walk into a beautifull resturant with dimmed lights, I`m served an Ice cold San Miguel, + a porterhous steak :D .

This piece really takes me places, you are exelent at capturing moods with your playing Tim.

Kudos to Tonio as well.

Mix is great, sounds perfect to my ears.

Amazing guys :)

Name That Tune!!!!!!!!!!!

It's making me nuts....I cant remember the name of the song, but it was written by either AC Jobin or Joao Gilberto or one of those brazilian guys. It's a BossaNova classic . Funny how after playing those tunes for years they all run together. Wave, Disaffinado, Corcovado, Insensative, etc. I'm having a senior moment here. Help me out somebody. Name That Tune!!!

ps...it's not Blacko!

Chazba – Thanks. I agree with your arrangement/mix suggestions. This is really just a “sonority test” to dial in the gtr tone, and I agree that it’s too busy, given the laid-back genre - with the flute doing the theme, while two lead gtrs are bouncing around. They’ll all be taking turns in the “real” arrangement. The song is Manha de Carnaval from the ’59 movie Black Orpheus.

True – thanks for checking in again.

BRIEFCASE – I ended up reducing the lower mids of the rhythm gtr and I think it balances better. Thank you.

Bulls – Thanks man.

Naka – order a beer for me too. I’ll be right there. Tonio’s percussion propels it, and the flute was very mellow and rhythmically relaxed so it was easy to just fit in the middle of all that. Gracias.
