Ive just bought a boss multi effects processor. Im wondering which sounds better? The Multi effect processor or the individual box pedal processor?

Hey Jerberson,

I think you're likely to get opinions on what different people prefer, but ultimatly you may have to answer that one on your own as it really depends what sounds better to you you know?

Personally I like both, yet have neither. (I don't use any effects except verb.)

:)

I think the only non-debatable part of this is...........

Multi EFX pedals switch on/off multiple EFX at once. Pedals must be done with ballet like precision and style to accomplish this feat.

Multi EFX are all in one place so there is not need for cables galore which add noise.

BUT!.....

Most of the individual stompboxes (distortion at least) are analog so there is no out dating of the sample rate 6 months down the road.

Individual pedals can be picked at your own discretion. (Possibly the biggest plus of all.)

It depends on which Boss multi efx unit you're talking about. The GT series are awesome. I just got the GT3 and I like it alot better than single effects, and like Outlaws said, you don't have to take ballet lessons to use it effectively. I haven't played the other multi efx units, but from what I hear all the boss ones are great. Hope this helps. Peace

hey thats what i have, a GT-3, this thing really rocks, the only i dont like is some last part of the presets like the string, bass and effects that wont really pick up some tune in my guitar, but distorion, overdriven are awesome. i wish i can buy the GT-6 :) i wonder what ME-series sounds like? ME was my first choice before buying my GT. but i found a cheaper GT-3 and works great from ebay only $190

its generally thought that multi-effects boards are of inferior sound quality/versatility than individual pedals. howver, sometimes, if your budget requires, then they are the way to go.

the difference of analog/digital in an effects pedal usually isn't the difference between good/bad. a digital delay and an analog delay are two totally different effects. a digital pedals "sample rate" is also not the deciding factor on whether it's good or not.

a lot of people might say a low sample rate is "cool". it all depends on what you want.

i know i don't like multi-effect boards. especially for overdrive. but then again i only like tube-screamers. i don't like boss phaser/flanger but i like mxr. it all depends on what YOU like, and generally everything in a multi-effects board isn't going to be what you like.

Multi-effects are really good for live situations where you need to access a lot of different sounds during a gig.

My personal preference for recording would be a collection of different stomp boxes, but at this stage I'm stuck with a Digitech RP14D, which is really noisy, so what do I know!?

I find I'm using less effects in recording as I'm sick of dealing with the hiss issues - add to this single coil pickups and tube amp and it really can be quite alarmingly noisy...

If you really want some great sound, you should get a boss GT-Series as what we have said on this post. There are really great for recording. If you wanna hear some songs made by Boss GT-3 and by ME, you can go to this link and hear the song revised version of "Everything I Own by Bread" with this song im just having fun with it.....I revised it something like a Rock style and use all the guitar sounds from my GT-3. The first song is only a demo one.

I've thought of selling my RP14D to some unsuspecting 16 year old (it's got a TUBE in it! How cool!) and investing in a GT6, trust me - I may yet do it.
