does anyone have any experoence with this unit?.Im a one man band and im lacking in drums, this thign as they say has all these patches with 3 variations of each and its easy to program but i have always sucked at programing drums, im a guitar player not a drumme rbut my music is lacking because lack of drums.I tried to look for some deomos of this thing but cant find much. thanks for your input.

The Boss drum units are very tasteful, I used to have the DR550 very versatile, easy to use and program, nice sounding snares and kick. Sorry no experiences with the Dr3.

I'm not sure what you're asking here, but I get the sense that you're frustrated with learning how to program the machine?

I've got a Boss DR-700, not a DR3, but I can say is that it takes most people a rather long time to learn how to use most drum machines. It also takes a lot of time to program them even after you've learned how. I've seen lots of CDs that actually give somebody a credit for programming the drum machine -- as if it were like playing an instrument -- and I think that says something about the degree of difficulty involved.

My best advice, for what it's worth, is to play with it and futz with it and get to know it. (I'm talking about the drum maching here.) Just accept that fact that it will eat up a lot of your time, and remind yourself that no matter how frustrating it may be, it's probably still less time-intensive and less labor-intensive than teaching a drummer your songs, micing the drummer, recording the drummer, and keeping the drummer out of your refrigerator the whole time.

HapiCmpur is spot on the money there.

Once you learn how to program the basic rolls, fills and beats etc you will have a neat little tool at your disposal. I am open for correction here but I believe the drums on Joe Satriani,s "Surfing with the Alien" album was recorded using a Boss drum machine, not sure which model; possibly DR 550.

The major difference between using a drum machine and a drummer is: You only have to punch the information in once using a drum machine!
