Hey folks, I'm not exactly sure where to post this so I apologize if it's in the wrong area and feel free to relocate it to the proper space. ...... I know I'm living in the past recording on a stand alone Tascam DP-02 and using this old DR-770 but hey, I'm having fun. My question to anyone familiar with the 770 is, do they run hot ? After maybe an hour or so of programming, this little plastic box gets pretty dang warm..... as does the power supply..... So much so that I've taken to shutting it down for a little while now and then. Just curious if others have had this same experience. Still works a treat though !! :O)

Thank You !!! Was just curious. I'll continue to shut down from time to time, but it's nice knowing it's nothing out of the ordinary !

From the spec' the device requires 14V at 700mA, that is close to 10W* and that is quite a bit of power to contain in a small enclosure. The situation is further worsened because the PSU is just a transformer. That means the rectifiers and regulators are in the device not the PSU and the latter, these days, would be DC switch mode and much more efficient. I have an AC mixer traff and have put a switch in the power cable so I can easily turn it off when not in use.
Heat mitigation can be done by sitting the PSU in a small Ally box and sit the 770 on an alloy plate. If the plate is black anodized so much the better!

*and more if your mains voltage is higher than the company's "nominal". That is 230V here but mine is always a tad over 240!

Just a thought? Laptop coolers if you are worried.

Dave.
