Boss BR-600 vs TASCAM DP-02CF

Hello,

I'm planning to buy an 8 track digital recorder, but I'm not so sure about the model to get, I've been doing some research and it seems to me that both the boss and the tascam could fill my needs, but I can`t decide on which one to get.

The boss seems to have a really nice buil-in drum machine, virtual amplifiers and virtual bass functions, I'm really interested in this part of the multi track, that I can just plug in and record without bringing my amp or anything else and get a nice sound

The tascam seems to have more controls for every channel, but I don't think it have virtual amplifiers and I haven't found anything about effects

In anyway I would appreciate if you could help me make a more informed decision

The DP-02CF doesn't come with any onboard effects... It does allow for using outboard units tho... The Hard Drive model (DP-02) has onboard effects tho.

I don't know anything about the BR-600, but if the amp models, drums and effects are a driving force in your purchase decision, it sounds like that's the unit you want to get.

The BR-600 built-in drum machine is not bad - if you are familiar with the Boss DR series, its the same system - pretty easy to program, but limited, of course, as machines tend to be, but you can change tempos, sounds, etc pretty easily.
The built in f/x are ok, but you may find the need to use a mic-ed amp on occasion.
I have not used any bass in (no bass guitar), but have used the bass simulator, which is 'ok', at best.
I'm not familiar with the Tascam, but the BR600 is limited to recording no more than two inputs at one time.

The thing that keeps BR600 in the fight are the effects, but I think I'm being lazy, since I have Guitar rig 3, so I can get my simulations outside from my computer and then into the tascam... but... I still haven`t seen anything that makes me take a decision, what I'm starting to cherish about the tascam are the looks... yeah I know... :o

But I already have software for simulation, a small yamaha mixer, a digitech effects generator....

Maybe you are onto the right thing for me the DP02 would be perfect... but it´s a lot more expensive than the dp02cf and the br600

The built-in drum machine it`s a big factor in my decision, it shouldn´t be, since I have a Yamaha PSR-1500 but I think it would be difficult to connect to the tascam.

At this point I think the Boss it's a nicer and easier choice, but I'm not sure if in the long run I will regret not getting the Tascam, I wish somebody here had it so I could hear somethng about it
 
I have both machines. The Boss has decent effects,mics and drums built in and it runs on batteries. The Tascam has KNOBS and much nicer build quality.
 
I finally have decided, after talking it to the wife we're going to make an effort and I'm getting the Tascam 2488 MKII, I think it'a small price for the value... :)
