just recorded these riffs so I wouldn't forget them.. I might end up doing something else with this.. I have a cold and just needed to record something easy.. it probably sounds repetitive without vocals, but any thoughts on the mix are appreciated.. pretend the drums are just a metronome.. :)

I was originally trying to come up with something for someone else to sing.. (this girl that I know,) but if anyone has an idea of what to add, add it or let me know..

thanks if ya bother!

last tune - boring instrumental #5..

Sabb,

Oh! shit. sorry! :) don't fuck this up with vocals. he he he he he

having trouble playing the file for some reason.....i'll try again in a bit

is it just me or the ending of this song is detuned?? I have had this problem when playback Lt Bob's stuff awhile ago, I hope it's not my comp's problem:confused:

B.SABBATH:
I like how I can "recognize" your tunes. There is a style to your stuff. Cool! I think this one deserves a complete production with vox, more changes and so on.

The trademark samicide soundscape© w/that huge snare drum, watery synths, & hot lead guitar... the first two notes on gtr made me think of that Huey Lewis song :confused: "If this is it?" or something :o This should be cooler than that when done.

Damn! I'm hearing a hook, already!

B(1/4) B(1/4) B(1/2 dotted) B Ab Gb Ab (slide) Eb(1/2) Eb(1/4) (slide) Gb~ (hold)

Whoa! The first lead-in melody line? Maybe? Try it out, man.

(1/4, 1/4, 1/2(dotted),1/8,1/8,1/8,1/8,1/2,1/4,hold...)
(the times)

B = 3rd string 3rd fret
Ab = 3rd string 1st fret
Gb = 4th string 4th fret
Eb = 4th string 1st fret

Try it, anyway... if you want

I loved it all except the "dawn-fresh-smells like a rose" sound that starts the song. The rest is just great. I am completely unaware how you get the wall of sound you get. I sure would like to copy it, knock off your persona, keep it as mine, have the world worship me...bow down... thankyou gentleman...thank you!!

I need to be a fly on the wall one day when you are goofing off!!

so...do I get an ebow first?? then what?:confused:

oh..that lead sound starting around 45 secs.... tell me it's your Roland and not your damn Alesis. or can it be done with gtr? that's one of the coolest lead sounds. And your vocal patches... how come all my Roland expansions, etc don't sound like that? You got a Proteus hidden away somewhere?

one other cool sound..before your leads.. the wa, wah, waaah...(like at the :06 mark of the song).

very intersting sounds here........a nice wide palette of tones.......great production.......

i like the soft snare sound on this one.....not too 'cracky' or 'roomy'...just right

good mix

Damn Sam.....I'm with everyone else....I just LOVE the sound you get. Nothing can be bad when it sounds like that. You have a seemingly infinite ability to come up with unusual sounds and ways to use them. Pretty awesome actually.

Im diggin it man.You need to get a patent on that sound.It's your signature dude!

Hey Sam,
Very cool man. Im gonna echo what everyone has said re: style. You have a very unique way of incorporating almost orchestra'ish/symphonic qualities into your mentally heavy tunes, and i dont think its just the sounds you use. It is definitely your own. Im looking forward to what you put to this. Your idea of putting a chic's vocals over this is a good one. That would definitely be a very interesting listen. I just listened to Jaimee's tune, and cant help but imagine her singing something timid and innocent over this. .......kind of an XTC kinda vibe.....(dear god'ish)

very cool stuff man!!!

thanks for checking it out guys!

A1A2 - the ending is detuned sounding.. I did that on purpose.. That's pretty cool that the sound made you think you were having computer problems. :D

participant - I have no idea what that means, but if you want to add something, go for it man! I would love to collaborate with you on this or something else..

mixmkr - yeah man, that synth lead @45 is from the Alesis 'Vintage Synth' exp. card.. I'm still searching for a similar sound on the Roland.. I recently got the XV 20-20 sound module, but it wasn't a big jump from the JV sounds.. Looking back, I didn't really need it, but certain patches sound a little better.. mainly the piano and voices..

Guernica - this girl that I'm 'dating' wants to try and sing.. She seems to have a natural ability to sing in key.. I listened to her sing along to some stuff, so she may try something over this..

dtb, powderfinger, Lt. Bob, Kramer - appreciate the comments d00ds!

People always ask how I get these sounds.. Here are a few of my favorite crutches! :D

I should have combed my hair for this and worn shoes, didnt know I`d be going to the theatre! :) It was beautiful. Wailing wall stuff....I`d kill for that clarity and depth.
as always.. I enjoyed from note 1 all the way into the black hole.

:cool:

You so crazy, Sam! (and I disagree with dtb...LOL. You need to "fuck this up" with words, especially so you can join the verbal assasins club).

Mix sounds great, btw

LMAO!

thanks Toki and chris..

A few more recording notes if anyone cares.. I started with the simple drum beat, and added a low phatty synth.. The aftertouch really helps be more expressive.. It added a growl when I pushed down hard.. Never underestimate the power of aftertouch.. I stumbled on some interesting sounds that way.. I added some stereo voices that I played with both hands.. I layered that again hitting different notes I guess.. then went with some light strings, and finally the E-Bow..

For the first time, I used the Q10 e.q. I think it helped add some crispness.. I slapped an L1 preset on the end, and that was it..

thanks again for the comments guys..

I'm gonna let this thread die unless anyone has any suggestions/tips or questions.. I'm going to add more stuff to this, and I'll repost it at a later time..

stay warm!

Sam, nothing that you post is "boring". How could I think anything that shows that much creativity is boring?

It was the melody... in my head.... of the first line. Started humming it w/your tune, and then picked it out on guitar. Those are just the notes... 1/4=quarter note, 1/2 = half note, etc.

I'll give it a shot probably tomorrow (Wed) as I'm at work now, and have school after.

I would love to collaborate with you on this or something else..

PM... ;)
