A friend of mine has shown interest in recording as well as swapping tracks back and forth and working together on some stuff, he was bugging me to send him something I had done, so this is what I threw together. Work in progress, blah blah blah and all that. Figured some more feedback would be cool.

OK, I will listen and help out a fellow buckeye. Listening...

OK, the first one is fine. Decent sound, acceptable mix, good stuff. Now it just needs a song to go with it. Its basically a long intro, could hold ones attention for 30 seconds tops. I like it, run with it.

#2. Listening...

A lil too much on the kick, I have AKG headphones on and they are shakin me noggin ;) Same lick, I liked it without the boomy bottom.

Yeah. Its a good lick, has a somber 80s feel to it. One could do a lot with it.

Where is Wheelersburg? Down by Marietta? Parkersburg area??

About 15 minutes East of Portsmouth, along the river. As for the mp3, it's just something I've been playing around with in my spare time. I've got a better mix of it at home atm, but I'm still adding to and taking away from. Not sure which direction I want to take it yet. How's the weather up there?

How's the weather up there?

Same as it always is: crappy. I live about 20 miles from the lake so we get that lake effect stuff. When you see all the bad weather near Cleveland, yup I live in the epicenter of that.

My family is down in youngstown. Not that far from here (60 miles) but its a whole different world weather wise. Good luck with your project, you are off to a good start and let us know when you are finished.

I posted the better mix (well, I think it's better lol) I like the bass on this one better too. I need to get me a good set of monitors though. Headphones ftw! :p

I also posted a version to show my friend how a BBE sounds, as he's never heard of it before. Starts off without it, around 30 seconds or so it's on, and on and off a few more times throughout. Not that anyone cares, he found it interesting so

I am listening to "better mix" ...I think you have the makings for a kick ass song here.

The tune is catchy and held my attention. I love the intro.

The snare has a cool tone to it. The guitar melody is great! And the rhythm is just where is needs to be. I think a bit more bass would enhance it. I know you are not finished yet.

Man it has the feel of one of those songs that send shivers down your spine....

It's a love song!!!

I haven't heard your other ones yet, but even without hearing them, I would say go with this one for forming that perfect song!!!

PS. If you ever want someone to play around with lyrics or/and vocals on this tune, let me know.

Love songs are my forte'...well unrequited love songs, that is!! :D

Sheese, I can't stop listenin' to this!!!

Oh, I am sorry I can't be of much help on the recording qualities of it. I can only go by what my ears hear on my headphones for now. I am just starting to learn myself, and I may even hear basses, when they are not present!!!

But the song is still going to be a Keeper!!! :)

Aye, there is bass present, however I'm still mixing with headphones, so it's not as prominent as I'd like for it to be. I'll definatly keep you in mind for some vocals, I couldn't sing if my life depended on it lol. It's still in progress but it's something I work on as often as I can. What are you using to record with? I'm using Cakewalk Homestudio 2XL

I just purchased a Lexicon Omega with Cubase LE. And a far cry from using it properly.

Do you have lyrics already?

Thanks for keeping me in your mind. :D

I'd have to agree with an earlier post. It's basically a long intro. After the first 30 seconds,..it didnt change,..I lost interest. Kept listening anyway and about the 1 minute mark,..shortly thereafter it sounds like it changes to a new song? I didnt get a very good feeling from the flow of it.

Anyway,...mix does sound decent.

my 2 cents.

Take 'er easy,..

CreamyApples....your user name sounds like your tune!!! :)

I am listening again, over and over, and man....I am telling you, there is magic in this song. MAGIC!!! Just let it play over and over...wow.

The intro is your hook!! Don't cut it off, please!! Just enhance it with bringing things in a bit tighter in certain areas. By the most part I think it sounds pretty tight. Add a heartwailing lead, or violin, but don't cut yourself short. Use it as a bridge and ending too!!!...but keep it!!!

I love the lingering way you have allowed it to build it up, letting it gain it's passion as you move forward!!! Cool!

I guess I sound pretty bossy, don't I?? I just get excited, when I hear something sooooo promising.

Besides, the longest standing songs, have always been, always will be love songs, or those of a love song feel.

I have listened over and over and over.

How many guitar tracks do you have on this? I can hear Harmonics and then that Lindsey Buckingham harmonical-lead-rhythm sound, an acoustical rhythm, and an electric rhythm, an electric lead rhythm, bass, sounds like an acoustical lead too. What is that...6-7 guitars going at once for the most part? Or am I just hearing things?

And did I mention, the snare is right on! I know, not real drums right? :D

4 guitars, 1 acoustic, 1 acoustic 12 string and 2 electric tracks, the 2 electric tracks are panned opposite each other, 1 is at like 10 O'clock the other at 2 O'clock, Bass and no not real drums, but I like it lol

Like I said, it's nothing set in stone, just something I've been playing with and the direction of it is eluding me at present, so opinions are always welcome. I also know that different people have different tastes so I don't expect everyone to dig it. Before it's all over I anticipate re-recording it all anyway, all of the guitars were ran directly into a board and to the soundcard which is not the way I typically do things, but that was the easiest at the time.

To me, I like the way it does a complete 180 from the ambient, trippy (intro I guess you could call it) to the more steady section, though in my mind the second part almost sounds more (chorusy, if that makes sense) though it would bode well as an outro bridge, ending with the same opening (just my thoughts at present) I'm working on something to put in between there (verse) it's up in the air though.

Do you have any tracks anywhere I could check out?

Kevin

EDIT - n/m I just checked your sig lol, I'm diggin' "Awake" good stuff.

I haven't listened to the music yet. I am on my wife's computer, with no speakers. We are planning to move to Granville this spring, from california. Maybe we all will be neighbors! Walter

Not sure where Granville is right off hand, I'll have to look it up.
