Book suggestions

Hey everyone obviously I'm new to recording and looking for some help. Before I just start asking random questions I'm just wondering if there are any good book suggestions that can help me out. I am looking to just record locals (mostly rap) over a beat and would like to know the basics of all the equipment I would need. I’m not looking for crazy professional sounding songs, but definitely stuff worth listening to, so if anyone has any books they read tell me what you thought.

Probably your best bet is to just read up on these forums here at HR not thread by thread but use the search button at the top of the page to ask your questions .... then upon reading you'll note that if there is a bad or sucky answer people in the know will chime in and correct.

Then if you have specific questions along the way then you can ask with your own thread question.

I have the latter which I got a month ago with the aim of reading immediately. Then Keith Richards and Howard Massey turned up........"Guerilla" is irritating in bits but it's a superb book and I'd recommend it to Prince William and Kate so I'd have to to us mere mortals.

dont you think everybook is made with a purpose or story to tell. there maybe books that suck but am sure u can get atleast one or good expressions in it.

It's funny, I've read tons of books on recording and even more biographies and interviews over the last 34 years and it's just this moment, having seen Legion's comment, occurred to me that I've never done so in search of answers. It happens to be an interesting subject to me and so I'd read up and absorb almost by osmosis. But I've learned lots.
There is a sense in which a forum like this is an ongoing living book. I could partly understand bdenton's 'rant' in the other thread but I think one of the major points he was missing was that many treat HR.com like a living book and that is one of it's strengths.
That said, I love to read and for that, to me, nothing beats a book. It's hard to drag a 'puter to the loo or spend 90 minutes in the bath with it.........

Well...firstly I would hope that recording books would be dealing with facts rather than telling a good story. But if we're on the subject of fiction books, no, there's some real shit out there, to which the only merit I can see is that it's somebody's labour of love, and they got it published, so good luck to them. That doesn't help me though. Ever read Jane Austin? Yeah...it's all in the eye of the beholder, I know. But holy shit!

Haha yes they are, and yeah, you can. But why get it out of a book that sucks when you can go get that same expression and maybe a hundred more out of a good, quality book?
