Hi,

I’m about to buy book (or several) to learn more about the whole process starting from recording instruments and ending up as a final mix. I have done some minor recording attempts but I don't really have any solid prerequisite knowledge in the topic (other than computer knowledge).

Any good book recommendations?

My situation: I have a band (2xGuitars, Bass, Drums and Song). As far as hardware there is a 24 channel mixer board and a PC with a Terratec EWS 88MT. I’m planning on using Cubase SX2.

Tnx mate, great resource. I have also placed an order on "Mastering Audio" ISBN: 0240805453. Should be some interesting reading.

IMO the books by Paul White (editor of SOS) are very good, they're balanced without advising on gear or settings too much but giving you ideas of techniques and stuff. I have a copy of Recording and Production Techniques , which to my mind is a decent book to give you ideas, without spoon-feeding you potentially unhelpful gear settings.

I read a couple of SOS articles by him after I placed my order and absolutely love his writing. Unfortunately my book order had shipped so I couldn’t append the book you recommended. But I sure will add it next time around.

Thanks for the tip!

"The Audio Pro Home Recording Course"
"The Art Of Mixing"

and the rest of the MIX BOOK series......

No problem ... just remember to keep asking the guys using the gear day in day out ... down here or at any of the other forums like this.
