Speaking of Led Zepplin, I just noticed, after all these years of listening to them, that, at least on the ZOSO album, Bohnam either has his hi-hat closed or open, and leaves it there for the entire song. No open/close hits every 4 or 8 measures as most drummers do. Is that true for his entire Zep career? I'm not a real drummer, obviously, or I'd have noticed this before.

Yup, he uses it

He definitely does use variations of open/close hats. Check out "Fool in the rain" on In Through the Out Door, it is one of my favorite Bonham beats. You should also check out The Song Remains the Same, if you haven't seen that. The 15 or so minute, rendition of Moby Dick is legendary, and he uses the highhat 8th note "chick" closing sound throughout his solo.
