Blues from London

I would back off the snare and boost the kick and the bass and add some definition to the bass (mid boost perhaps)....I would also add verb to the guitar and fiddle....and the vox too...seems real dry overall...guitar is a bit lo-fi too. I would do a high cut and a mid and low boost...unless lo-fi is what you are looking for...
Nice clean recording though............kudos.

Thanks - much appreciated. I think I rolled off some bass from the acoustic, so I'll roll it back in again. Listening on my quite shrill work headphones the hi-hats seem way too trebly too.

I really liked this. The little stop/start bits here and there added interest and kept me guessing. Some of the elements were really lacking in brightness though which was perhaps intentional? It does have a nice warm, lo fi kind of feel. I didn't find the hats to be too trebly myself.

I do think the kit lacks balance level-wise. The snare is wicked loud in comparison to the kick and the occasional fills. It would be nice to hear the drums, mellow as they are, a little more completely. Vocals were well done performance wise, but a little dry perhaps? I dunno...not 100% sure what sort of sound you're going for, and I really like it as is, just thinking the mix could be tweaked further to make this even more enjoyable. Thanks.

When my ship starts to sink, it will be me and the rats.

Really nice tune.

I understand the drum sound - it suits the style of the song. The bass needs to be either tweaked to replicate a double bass or get some definition to sound like a bass guitar - try +4 with a Q of 3 at 3Khz.
Good song, hedge & edge is a bit freeform though.
Listen to some middle period Harry Nilsson for wry/witty musicality.

I liked this a lot, especially the wilted bit with the violin that starts around 2:10.

I have to say, I almost baulked at the thread title "Blues from London"... try “London Blues” next time... :)
