Well, if some of you weren't online this weekend you never got a chance to check out the first mix of this song. Many of the original comments were that it sounded thin, the vocal was too loud, and the (real) drums were too soft. Check it out and let me know if you think it's any better...

FYI, this one is called blueprint2.mp3.

You can still hear my first version at
.

Let me know what you think, or you think it's any better.

Thanks!

Dont remember the 1st version but....

This one starts off better.

Vocal is too edgy around 5k or so.

You could do a better job on EQing the kick.

Overall feels much bigger and nicer.

Watch that lead vocal around 160Hz.....

GILES117: Again, thanks for taking the time to check this out and reply...I'll mess around with the EQ a bit on the Vocal and see if that helps around the 5k area...what's with the 160Hz area... does that sound to muddy? Thanks for the help! Although I am interested to hear how you made some comparisons to the first version that you don't remember :D ...
Oh, by the way, I EQed the living crap out of those drums to make them sound anything even close to a drumset...what i needed were different mics. I think i was lucky to get that close!

thanks!

After I played your track (I recalled and forgot to delete my comment.)

BTW I have used a 58 to cut Kick (one time only. LOL) but it was workable. positioning of the mic is paramount. :)

yeah, I wish I had more time to screw around with the mic placement. He's an antsy drummer who didn't really want to do more that a few takes to nail it. It took a while just to get that 58 to sound that good. You don't happen to recall roughly where you placed it do you? Thanks for the feedback!
