bluegrass original tune

I made up this tune back in 2006. I had Pro Tools, but didn't know a lot about how to archive, and I think the hard drive it was on busted, because it was a cheap USB device, something that shouldn't have been used anyway. But I made some CDs and so recently I loaded the songs back on Protools so I could alter the sound somewhat. I added a little depth and eq. What else could I do to help this recording, or is it too late when you lose the session to restore much at all?

You can always do something.
I recently had an old stereo track (that I'd lost the project for) professionally mastered & it came up quite nicely.
You track is pretty cool - it was a good mix.
You might consider sending an MP3 to an ME for an assessment of what, sonically, needs doing.
I like it - good playing!

Ozone used to let you download a free trial that was fully working for maybe thirty days or so. That would be a good way to try some mastering tools/presets. It's a fun program to tinker with, and sometimes even an ignoramus like me can bring a mix to life...like a blind hog stumbling upon an acorn.

Man ray ain't kidding. That is some seriously good playing! I was anxiously waiting for some high lonesome hillbilly vocals and harmonies, but I can't fault the fact that it's an instrumental. I guess the one thing I kept wanting to hear was some more definition/presence in the bass.

Thanks guys. Ya, the bass could be more punchy and up front - - maybe a multi compressor emphasizing the low eqs? I want to try that first I think.

Wow, one part of that song reminds me of a song on Joe Hood's new album. I think Wesley Shutes did it originally called "Jam".

But great playing on both songs.
