Hi, all...
I am new to this forum, so I apologize if a question of this sort has been posted and answered before. Here's my situation:
I just bought a Blue Yeti microphone, and so far I love it. I record myself singing to backing tracks a lot (in Audacity), so the zero-latency headphone monitoring option was essential. However, when I'm monitoring via headphones, the "headphone volume" knob on the Yeti controls both my voice and the backing track simultaneously---in other words, if I turn it up or down, both the recording feedback in my headphones AND the backing track turn up or down accordingly, maintaining their levels respective to each other. Is there a way to control these two factors separately? Many times the music is too loud for me to hear my voice clearly, and turning the knob down turns down the music, but my voice as well, defeating the purpose. I suppose I could up the gain a bit, but I was getting horrible clipping out of the box, so I currently have my Windows 7 settings at 1, and the gain knob on the Yeti at about halfway. I'm not sure I should turn it up much more and risk distortion problems. At any rate, what is the best way to turn the music up or down without affecting my voice volume (or vice-versa---turn my voice up or down without affecting the music volume)? That's one of the options I miss about my Shure SM-58. Its adapter (the X2u) had a gain wheel, a volume wheel, AND a monitor wheel. The volume wheel acted like the volume knob on my Yeti: it turned everything up or down simultaneously. The monitor wheel affected only the level the backing track was coming into the headphones, so turning the wheel up or down decreased or increased the difference between music volume and voice volume. Since my Yeti obviously lacks a "monitor" knob, or the like, what are my options for controlling my music/voice volume ratio?
Thanks in advance...
