Damned if I do
I downloaded the pdf manual for the Blue Snowball in an effort to help someone with a question yesterday. What I found was a manual that was trying to emulate the humor of the Mackie manuals, but to me it was condescending to those of us that have been working hard to understand what the hell it is we're doing.

Granted, this particular mic is aimed at the entry-level consumer, but the tone it took was ultimately offensive IMO.

Fuck Blue.

why don't you post it? I'm not going to go buy that POS just to read the manual and get pissed off. anyway...the blue snowball? that's a joke right?

Hmmm I thought they were trying to sell products not piss people off...

Lol

It seems pretty sophomoric, I particularly enjoyed their insinuation that 4 of the pages needed to be read twice...

...Please don't tell me that this is going to be a trend in equipment literature style... :(

Read it for yourself, then get back to me.

I read that the Blue guy (Skip Wise?) made this originally for his daughter to use with Garageband, which may explain why it's kinda dumbed down a little (target market), but yeah, that manual pissed me off. Let's get a posse together and go kick their Baltic-Latvian asses. :)
A cause worthy of uniting pirates and ninjas perhaps?

It's not that bad. Written by a snotty 15 year old perhaps... but not that bad. Doesn't matter, I wouldn't buy one regardless of what the manual says.

If you actually read the manual that came with your mic ... then there is at least a reasonable likelihood that you are, in fact, a geek. :D

.
Dang, he's right again, I don't think I even know anyone who has read a microphone manual.

HEY!! I resemble that remark...Had to read up on roll-off settings for my Sennheiser 421...

I read it and thought it was kind of dumb. I like humor just like Dogman likes boobies but I think in a product manual you should just stick with the facts.

Here's my main problem with it: Blue is only perpetuating the myth that you don't have to be a "pro" to get "pro results" because it's all about the gear and not the skills.

And if reading the manual is so stupid, then why is RTFM such a popular abbreviation?

I dunno. This seems like the iMac of microphones. The iMac manual is written so non-computer savy people get how to operate it. To me this mic has that kind of market for its demographic. Someone who wants to record quality sound with a computer, but doesn't know too much about mics.

I can see that, sure. But the only reason I even bothered looking at the manual was to try to help someone here that was having trouble getting a decent level from it. If an entry-level user is having problems with an entry-level mic, then something ain't quite right.

Yeah. It looks like they have some kind of gravity switch that kicks the -10dB pad in at a certain angle.

Weird.

....

Why do you care so much? The mics sound is the important part, not the manual. Just ignore it and go back to recording. :D
