you are really great, the song is extremely good. but whatever mic you used, please tell us so we know what NOT to use for vocals. because that vocal tracks SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

edit: the guitars are wretched too

i'm gonna go out on a limb and say your vocal / guitar mic was either a sp c1 or something similar. whatever it was, it's ruining your great music

You'll need to go out a little further yet; the mic was the dreaded AKG C3000B. We've since upgraded to some better mics. In fact, the Kick and Snare are SM57s and the OH were the despised and reviled C1000s. The bridge in this song was the tipping point for me to get some better (budget) OH mics.

I like this. Nice voice! Great song too. Now...

Vocals up.

Snare down.

Solo guitars need a bit more body to them (mids?).

Bass guitar almost non-existant.

But I like the possibilities here. Nice job!

Nice solid performances all the way around. Nice song.

Here are my only criticisms:

The drums sound very dull and lifeless. The snare sounds like cardboard (ok that's an exaggeration, but ... ).

The low end in general sounds a little flappy and muddy.

The singer sounds like he learned to sing by listening to Spacehog. Sounds just like that guy!

Hi

Very nice song. I like the sound of the stereo acoustic quitar. I'm not sure about the mix when the quitar goes mono. Maybe you could try to reduce the panning but keep some stereo image; Pan at 2 and 10 o'clock instead of mono ?

We didn't record any of the AGs in stereo. It's all multiple versions of two mono tracks. Is there a part in the song where it feels like a shift from stereo to mono? I think we tried to differentiate the verses by doing something like that... I'll pull them up later and give them a listen.

Thanks for all the comments, guys.... Keep 'em coming.

Keep in mind that the MP3 format sounds a little darker and muffled than the original. I don't know why. Either way, I'll try to mix for the MP3 version and post again in a few days, incorporating as many of your suggestions as seem feasable or appropriate.
