I got this message (or something like this):

"Your hardware has halted.

Please call your system vendor for instructions."

My pc's running now...but is there anything I could do to figure this out? It's been rock stable for until now...first crash!

Asus P4T533-C
1 gig RDRAM
40 gig Seagate HD (OS)
60 gig Maxtor HD (Audio)
Aardvark DP2496 sound card
XP Pro OS

I just upgraded my RDRAM a couple of weeks ago from 512. Any ideas?

I wasn't using anything...it happened right after the Win XP screen came up on on the boot-up process.

The stop message should have told you what file or driver caused the error. You can also find it (if you don't remember) in the Event Viewer.

There was no path or file name...a very simple screen.

This stuff's all new to me. How do I "examine my log files"?

The time of death leads me to believe this was some sort of (intermittent) HW failure or the use of HW that wasn't "blessed" by Pope Bill.

Faulty hardware maybe? Try pulling that stick of RDRAM out that you recently installed.....Just an idea

Yeah, I was thinking about that RAM too. The problem is that my computer's been running fine all day long since that initial crash. I'm assuming that there isn't much I can do unless my computer shows repeated problems. Hopefully, my hardware just crapped out on me just this one time. Sorry for the vague information, but that 's what the computer gave me.

Sorry I have a Dutch version of Windows. I don't know the exact translation. Maybe System management/logbooks??? It's a very helpfull utility.
