I have been looking at the Blueberry and the Dragonfly.. I was wondering if anyone out there might have some info on the two and if they are worth the money. I just want to make a good investment and want to be satisfied with my purchase.. This will be my first condensor mic. Any info would be appreciated.

I would encourage you to try them out first.
B.L.U.E. mics are great quality, but each has it's own unique signature sound, and they don't suit everybody.

A safer choice would be a Soundelux U195, or one of the cheaper Neumanns.

My friend has the Dragonfly. I am in love with this mic. It sounds awesome on vocals and distorted guitar. He mixes it with a 57 for guitar.

for all who dont know which mic to buy.... hope you got a good shop in your city, because: ! test them!! everybody can tell nice things about his experience but it really depends on so much things if this is the right mic for you or not...

well to tell nice things: i had a dragonfly and its ok... ;)

greets y.

Wow - is this not a big step for a first condenser?? If you're serious then you need to take some of your sources, i.e. your voice, guitars, etc, and try them out on a few mics in this price range.

My friend had a Blueberry and I didn't really care for it on his vocals. It seemed to have a big boost in the top end. Not cheap and unnatural like some of the chinese mics but it didn't really work for his voice.
Definitely try out the mics if you can.

I used the Baby bottle on several occasions, and I really loved. It is pretty funky on a hihat!

i've got a dragonfly and i love it. works pretty well on my timbrally weird voice--doesn't seem to work on everyone's. it's got some idiosyncracies, though.....so i definitely wouldn't recommend it as a first condenser.

honestly, for a first condenser, i'd go with either a Studio Projects B1 or an MXL V67. Or both. or a pair of both, which will still run you 1/2 of what a dragonfly will.

the dragonfly's a smokin mic, but it's certainly tempermental in terms of where you position it and what you put it in front of. love it on a lot of things, but it's not for the faint of heart (or patience).

cheers,
wade

for a first condenser, i'd highly recommend the audio-technica at4040. it's a quality mic that can be used on many vocals as well as on instruments and amps. you can put together a mic cabinet better than most home recordists own with an at4040, a pair of oktava mk012 small condensers and an audio-technica atm25.

the blue dragonfly is certainly a very nice mic and it's sort of underrated. when it works its brilliant. when it doesn't work you put up another mic.

I have a DF. My voice is very difficult to record. I purchased the DF 'cause it was the only mic that I've tried that seems to work me. When I recorded a person with whom I was very familiar with, and recorded well with what seemed every mic I put in front of him (worked with him for close to 20 years), I thought the DF would be ideal. Boy was I wrong...the mic just fell on it's face  I cautiously put it front of another vocalist, and it was like 'wow, if were going to improve this guys, vocal, we're going to have take a huge step up'...it was simply great! Aside from the huge proximity effect, I don't know how else to characterize this mic. It's one of those that seems to either work or doesn't work. It's worked very well with finger picked acoustic guitar. Prefered it over my KM184's at times.

Yea, I like to think of the Blue condensers as being like prescription eye glasses.

Put them on the wrong person's head, and everything's still blurry. But if the right person tries them on, suddenly everything snaps right in to focus. They might just be the perfect fit for someone who can't get their voice or source to work with any other mic, and that is where they prove valuable.

I ended up buying a Blueberry!

I absolutely love this mic.. Thanks to everyone for all the advice. :D
