I just bought a Teac 2340r and the guy I bought if from didn't have the power cord so he spliced another cord and got it to work. Obviously the cord couldn't handle it and when I took it home and plugged it in I heard a pop and a tiny bit of smoke, and it doesnt work. What to do? I noticed a fuse in the back, does that help?

If the unit worked and all you did was move it, the problem is most likely that the "spliced" cable shorted (you would know if your circuit breaker or fuse in the AC wallplug was tripped or blown). Check that the SAME wallplug still has AC voltage. Get the proper AC cord!!! It is very easy to find. Check the fuse on the tape deck and see if it is blown.

I can't believe that something in the deck (like power supply etc.) would all of a sudden go bad. Follow the above suggestions and all should be right.

Good Luck

The fuse was ok, but where do I find that power cord at? I went to RadioShack and they only have the 3 prong cords so it doesn't fit in the back. Thanks.

Ah the 2340 (3340) power cords.

Head over to your local hardware store and look for a 6' extension cord with a socket end that looks almost like the one you need. There is one that has the round corners and a plastic extrusion to prevent a 3 prong appliance from being plugged into it backwards.

When you get that cord just cut off the plastic that blocks the ground prong. And shape the rest of the plastic as needed.

I may have posted this somewhere else in the BBS. You might try a search for 3340 power cord and a post by me.

Regards.

Oh yes, Cost is about $6
