A Fire is Waiting

We've a blizzard underway here in CT. Amazing how the brain gets inspired ... but this is what I did in the studio yesterday as the storm blew in.

Any/all comments are warmly (no pun intended) appreciated ...

Thanks!

Kev-

P.S.- I tried to use the attachment feature for uploading the Mp3 direct, but was told that the 3.28 file was "too large". I thought up to 10mb was okay ... did the feature get killed? Hope everyone had a great holiday! K-

Okay -- I'll make the first comment:

Kevin, you dumb ass, when will you ever flippin' learn to not post headphone mixes? Yes, they sound good on your headphones, but that's precisely why you should never do it stupid! They don't sound good anywhere else.

New mix through my normal monitoring setup is now posted above.

Best,

Kev-

Vocals sound good. However in a spots I can hear the delay-thingy-phasey-thingy sound you're famous for. :D

Drums are kind of "big" for an intimate song like this. They sound great - just for some song other than this one.

Keys sound good - but I'd lose the flangery thing.

Damn. You're the third person to mention the drums ... which I experimented with a lot and rejected the more simple version. Both Frank and Stan said it caught their ear as out of place.

Only you would catch comment on the flangery thing ... and I know what you mean. I'll dry them up because you know I know what you mean.

I actually added flange to the vocal, and no, I wasn't singing through a TP tube. Thanks, bud. Really. :)

One more thing I forgot. It seemed like there was a word or two on the vocal that "wasn't right." Not out of tune, not incorrectly pronounced, just "not right." I'm not sure how to describe it other than that. I forget the words and time marks, but I can go back and re-listen if you want.

Stan also mentioned phrasing issues, but was nonspecific, Trip. I've been too close to this to hear the issue. If you could point it out, that would be a huge help. Teek offered that the drums might be too forward in the mix ... which would correlate with your comment that they're "big". As I noted over on RP, I did experiment with a more straightforward and simple drum part, but kept coming back to the more nuanced version. I'm wondering if simply bringing them back behind will improve how they sit in the arrangement?

Thanks for the help, bud!

It seems better to me today, but here is what I caught in the way of phrasing...

"barren play" at :33
"could" at 1:00 - it's actually a little flat.
"waiting" at 2:04

Little pop at 2:24 - didn't catch that the first time.
