I have a quick off topic comment.. I think people should stop critiquing peoples critiques.. I have watched 4 people in the past few months jump on mixmkr regarding his comments.. I remember how much it annoyed me when chrisharris (under the name of Melonhead) did that to me..

I'm not pointing anyone out (dobro,w.i.s.c etc,) but it seems like it could make someone second guess there first initial reaction to a tune, and that's not cool.. I think the first thoughts are usually the most accurate.. or at least to the person thinking them..

It rarely seems to go well when people critique a critique.. Let everyone enjoy their own opinion..

So in closing, I strongly believe marijuana should be legalized... NOW!

one more thing..

anyone who loves music and doesn't LOVE Vai, should listen to the album 'Fire Garden.' At least for me, it's very inspiring..

If you get a chance, look for this song - "Fire Garden Suite." It's almost 10 minutes long and has just about everything you could ever want in a song! Also, 'All About Eve.' He sings on that one, and it is great..

I like guitars. And ice cream. Shitloads of ice cream.

i was gonna applaud your post, but I looked back and it was gone.....;)

great song again......

to thine own self be true........

..... .....Sam, nobody's attacking Mixmkr. Im just expressing an opinion that is different than his. ....no high school shit throwing or cheap shots involved. If Mix seems to "get attacked" often, it is because he feels strongly about things and voices those opinions... and I respect that. And, if a second opinion has an influence on a first... well thats a good thing too, isnt it?

I too support legalized marijuana.....
....and think of the potential Ice Cream flavor possibilities......

This is a really long thread, and I didn't read any of it. :D :D

I have absolutely no problems with the mix. You know what you're going for, and you seem to achieve it. I'll say that when it really kicks in in places (like @ 2:50), it doesn't seem to sound as HUGE as some of your other stuff, but I can't quantify it beyond that.

You rule,
bye

OK, listened to it for the umpteenth time. Forget my comment about the hihat...

You rock! :D

Sorry for bumping this but I downloaded this last week and wanted to comment.

It's close to being a favourite SLuiCe tune for me too, even tho I've only heard a few so far.

My biggest complaint is the hiss around the splash symbol or gong, or whatever it is. It sticks out like a terd in a punch bowl in such a pristine production.

Also, I think you pushed the db limit a bit too hard in this one. Somewhere around the 2/3s mark in the midst of the heavy stuff it all sounds a little crammed and bright, it sounds deadly, but crammed.

What do you use for verb, man thats an excellent touch you have. I know it's there but I can't hear it.

Meaty as hell with a very good sound stage. I've noticed your stuff keeps a nice bottom end while sounding very crisp.

Nicely done.

Importand technical note:
Commenting on your stuff is like telling EVH he missed a note in a 64 bar solo.

hey Doug. i was like "evh...evh....oh, Eddy!" :) dummy...

i agree about the "cramming." i listened again the other day after a break and suspected that too. I'll get it on mix 2...thanks for mentioning it.

i'll also check that splash...wouldn't surprise me. It takes me about 3 re-mixes to get the cymbals right!

You've got some good ears.

The verb i used is Cakewalk FXReverb. It can be very warm if you set it right. i guess most reverb is like that though...gotta play around a little.

i'm glad to hear that the bottom end sounds decent. i have a lot of doubts about the low end when i mix . It usually takes me 2 or 3 different listening systems (monitors, auto, home) to be confident.

Thanks for checkin' it out Doug!

Peace

Tom

Great recording, wonderful acoustic at the start.

I love songs where you can't tell whats going to happen next and this one of them.

This kind of stuff is not usually my cup of tea but the quality, arrangement and playing kept me listening.

Can't see anything wrong with this one..

Sounds great as always,interesting production.
Really nice sound on the electric guitars.

How do you lay out a production like this?
So many breaks and changes, how do you keep track?

As always,a very enjoyable ride!:D
