Hi whats up guys I'm shure you all have your preferences when it comes to blank cd's. I'm not asking which ones you indorse, but rather which ones you avoid.

Anything that's made in China.

Nothing against the Chinese... I dated a Chinese gal a while back... Wow!

But their CD's suck donkey testicles.

Anyone know of any blank CD whole sellers online? I'm looking for plain blank silver face cd's.. amazing how they're so hard to find online.

Or as a friend of mine once said in a similar context:

"they suck big floppy donkey disk"

I just ordered 500 blank discs through supermediastore (the link that Massive just posted). They were cheap, the shipping was free, and I had them 48 hours later. All in all it was a good online purchasing experience for me:)

What brand did you buy?

By the way - They (SMS) ROCK on ink refils...

I think I bought the Pro Disc diamond white inkjet printables. I think it was like $110 for 500 discs. No tax or shipping and I got them in two days:)

MEMOREX 74 min and 80 min were surprisingly bad ... about 50% dud rate
I bought them at Walmart ( maybe that's why ?)

I now use SONY, and haven't got a dud yet

That's funny. I can't comment about the Sony, but I've burned hundreds of CD-Rs from Memorex, Imation, and Fuji Film. I have yet you burn a -single- coaster even when burning at maximum speed except when stopping the burn halfway through because I realized I'd screwed something up. I did have -one- burn in which a single track sometimes skipped in my car. That's the worst failure thus far.

Odds are, if you're burning coasters, there's something wrong with your hardware, OS, or burning software, not the media. I can't see any way in hell you could have a 50% failure rate because of depositional media flaws. About the only thing I can imagine would be if the manufacturing plant had an obstruction in the path that was severely scarring the discs that day, but the odds of something like that getting out (and the odds of this not being immediately obvious before you burned the CD-Rs) are very, very low.

It's more likely that the pits are so small at your drive's maximum burn speed that some older player you used had problems playing it. Either that or that your burner is -theoretically- capable of burning at the higher speed, but isn't entirely stable at that speed (or your system isn't fast enonugh to consistently push data at that speed). In that case, using a -lower- quality media with a slower maximum burn speed encoded on the disc would alleviate the problem simply by virtue of being electronically coded to burn at a lower maximum speed.

There are some Memorex CD's out there in which the labelig on top is done with a foil instead of screened. I avoid those like the plague. The foil tends to come off very easily and in flakes and can get left behind in both your burner and your player. This is NOT a good thing:D

i DL'ed this CD-R identifier program, and i popped in a couple different CD-R's that I have, just to see if i could tell who the manufacturer was. now I don't know how accurate or truthful this program really is, but it's interesting to see the results. I threw in a Maxell (blue dye) CD-R and it said Taiyo Yuden. An older Maxell (also blue) came out as Hitachi Maxell ltd. Philips and Memorex (silver) that i tried came out as CNC Magnetics Corp. Sony (silver) says Sony Corp. then i had an Audiobahn and another undbranded CD-R (silver) come out as Prodisc. it's kinda interesting because some people might talk about how crappy Memorex is, and then say that Philips CD-Rs are good yet they're made by the same manufacturer. do you guys know if there's any major difference between the Taiyo Yuden unbranded CD-R's and the ones sold under other company names? Theoretically they should be the same quality standards right? or maybe they are processed in different plants or something?

Undoubtedly there is a difference. A lot of your manufacturers may make OEM for others, and often make several different quality of products.
