It'll be a cool amplifier, but you'll fall into a trap. It'll be dry (no Reverb), so you'll be back asking about 'the best outboard Reverb'. Then there may be other pedals you'll want to use. 'What's the best OD to use with my Blackheart?' It'll go on and on. That stock speaker?

It's really a cheaper Tiny Terror. And that's another cool amplifier. I doubted it with all the skepticism in the world, but I did a mod kit with MM transformers, and the Tiny Terror with an old Marshall 4 x 10" cabinet sounded like God speaking to me. I haven't done any mods to my Crate, mostly because I haven't heard of any. But people I know with the same amplifier have tried mods as simple and cheap as different tubes, slightly more expensive mods like different speakers, and many have gone through a gazillion pedals trying to find 'the sound'. If you play basic rock with humbucker guitars, just get a Deluxe Reverb and have the best recording tone in the world. If you like experimenting, get that Handsome Devil and join in on a never-ending journey. Just remember that the journey itself is the reward.

I agree with the rest of what you said about spending a fortune on pedals and mods. For the most part small tube amps,especially the Blackhearts sound like cheap little toys that should be covered in pink tolex with a picture of Barbie on the front. The only exception is the Fender Princeton which sounds amazing when recorded.

Actually, I don't really agree with this too much. The Tiny Terror rocks out.
A really nice rock sound out of that amp. I haven't recorded with mine but based on how it sounds for gigging I'm sure you can get some really good tones out of it. Won't do the metal thing but that's about it.
It's not all that quiet though ...... keeps up with a moderate drummer on 7 watts so it's not an apt. amp.
Haven't played a Blackheart so I don't know about that.
