Kind of an odd song w/ a whole bunch of different changes. I think I'm closing in on the final mix, but all additional comments about anything that still pokes out are gratefully appreciated.

Thanks to all in advance for the help!

Sounds good to me, nice and progressive.
good playing and preformance.
Good vox, this song somehowe reminds me of gentel giant in a strange way.

great work :)

Thanks Nakatira! It is a little different, isn't it?

A buddy of mine who is a professional M.E. liked the tune, so he did a freebie on it this morning and quick mastered the original version I posted ... which I then promptly uploaded.

The link above is now to the mastered version of the work.

I'm glad you liked it. I'm the one doing the singing ...

Best,

I posted a new mix where I'd broken the guitarist hands because he pissed me off, I hamstrung the drummer so he can't operate the kick so loud (that's always been a problem with him), and boosted the piano severely in the 1.1326-1.2835 range to the point where it sounds so shrill, it makes my teeth fillings vibrate.

Yet, I think it all fits pretty well.

There's just not much else I can do for this tune ... so thanks for the comments, but I think I'm done with this ... so we'll just let this one quietly sunset from the board.

I apologize for the completely out of tune singing up front ... but it's tough to hold correct pitch considering the near-ear explosions that rendered me tone deaf.

Still, I've no apologies to make, but only a few complaints --

How 'cum tone deaf people can never seem to get those little tags that allow us to park in the best parking spaces next to Home Depot???

I mean ... if being a tone deaf singer isn't a handicap, then what the hell is???

I want my little blue wheelchair tag. I'm going to hang it in my studio alongside my Barry Manilow poster.

So there ...

:D

Sounds a lot like a Jimmy Webb style of composition to begin with BUT becomes a tad tame & MOR when the band comes in.
It could be a G/Giant bit if there were more bite in the rhythm and EQ.
This piece has some really good ideas but everything is NICE if you follow.
The 2nd half of the 1st solo is edgier.
The mix is really very good - aiming for a mellow, adult vibe.
The lyrics are very good a Supertramp vein - except that the refrain is based on a well worn term.If you could listen to some Gentle Giant - particularly from the LP "Interview" you may agree that some of their style of propulsion could add kudos and a noirish nature to your lyrics.
Sorry, Nakatira's mention of Gentle Giant has opened my mind up to other possibilities for your already very polished song.
Cheers

"Black Magic" is overused?? Back in my day, I originated the term. Everyone else owes me royalties. Gotta see a lawyer about that someday ... I'd remember, but this damn Alzheimers ... now what was I saying???

:D

I'm familiar with J.Webb, Ray, but the Gentle Giant reference, now seen by each reviewer here, I've got to check out. I'm not familiar w/ their work.

I'll have to give them a listen to pick up on the allusion to their recordings ... for if I listen to "Interview" I might hear the bite/eq that you're referencing.

THANKS for jumping in and commenting...I appreciate the help!

Best,
