Magic Bag Of Sounds
i bought a marshall vs100 combo amp a while ago when i was a young'n. well i quickly outgrew the amp but now i'd like to use it sometimes as a head, so i took the head out of the combo casing. i'd like to build some sort of a casing for it since its basically exposed electronics right now but i don't want it to look awful and i'd rather not spend more than $50 since i'm rarely gonna use this thing. any ideas? should i just get some cheap wood and cover it in carpeting like a bass head?

i wish this thing was built so i could rackmount it. that would be too incredibly easy. the dimensions are 22 inches wide, 7 inches deep and 3.5 inches high. and its a marshall so the bottom is angled so the mesh cover can meet up with the dials which are angled. super shitty. and the screw holes are on top so it can hang from the top of the combo box.

sure!!

Just get some Pine. It's cheap!! Do some nice butt joints - be sure to drill out your holes before you drive your screws..... Cover it with whatever and that will do - You could even use contact paper if you want to!!

I did this some time back with my Fender Twin when it got to be too much at my age lifting the bugger.
I just made a box that matched the dimensions of the top part of the case it came out of and allowed a couple of inches below the tubes for clearance and then covered it with vinyl and it looks like it is genuine, I also used a bit of grill cloth on the front too. How good it looks depends on what you put into the project.
Keep the original box in case you ever want to resell.

how wide is a regular rackmount case? this thing is about 21.75" wide. can i rig up some sort of portable rackount case for this like people do with bass amp heads?

sorry....

rackcases are 19", but there may be some computer rack cases built for servers that are 24, but good look finding only a 4-6 space one...
