yes, but in the hip hop world they call them binaural beatz

;):p

of binaural beats? nothing. it's just a natural phenomenon of how sound works with your brain.
As two pure tones are played into separate ears and mixed together in your head, the modulated difference of the two is experienced. For example if you took 400Hz into one ear and 410Hz into the other (the tones have to be below 1kHz) you'd have a resulting wave beating at 10Hz. Which is far below the end of the human hearing, but it's speculated that it can create a cortical rhythm within your head and force your brain into a certain type of conciousness....ie. agitation, calming, deep meditation.
It's all theory though.

whoa. is there one that makes you crap yourself?

That would be the brown note!

yeah. theoretically I've heard it's 4Hz at 120-140dBSPL.....
Mythbusters tried it on one of their shows awhile back. However, they never got down as low as 4Hz. So I'm not sure if it's true or not. I could be a different frequency for different people too.

I think binaural percussion sounds really good if recorded properly. I got my binaural mics from http://www.microphonemadness.com/ (the cheapest ones on there) and they work good. Also need the little (over-priced, but cheapest one on there) battery module.

similar topic danny...but we're talking about binaural beats. It doesn't have to do with recording percussion in binaural ;)

i know theres this thing called i-doser thats supposed to simulate various drugs with binaural beats.

has any one heard of binaural beats?

go to http://www.bwgen.com/ if you want to experience it. I've tried many times the deep sleep program and it works so well. I can go from so awake to absolutely deep REM sleep very quickly, and often awake refreshed. Think of it as using the (subharmonic?) beats (like when you''re tuning an instrument by listening to the vibrato when hitting two notes at the same time)... you can't hear such low frequencies with sound alone but someting about how the theory works is that by doing a sound that is say... 10 hz apart from each other. 100 hz played with 10hz..it produces a beat frequency... which ends up being 10 hz... like think of it in the terms of tuning an instrument that...WAWAWAWAWA sound will end up being 10 cycles a second...so then the theory is that your brain, since it runs on electrical frequencies, on certain wavelengths will be trained to follow audible frequencies, granted it can process them...so from what I understand, if you can have your brain understand whatever frequencies for whatever state of mind, it will cause it to follow those frequencies and thus alter your state of mind. I dunno if that makes any sense. It's really hard to explain because it's such a weird idea... but it does work from my experience...

do you think you could you mix a track as a sum-difference so that random noise is heard on each channel but listened to together a song is heard? would this be like those stereograms where you have to look into the picture?

nord

what is the man purpose of them

I've been writing up a piece where binaural beats are a backing rhythm track... It's a real pain in the ass because I switch time signatures so often, but I got around that by using elongated phrasing... and a series of tempo changes...

One of these days I'll get it done... :p

But as way of actually effecting your head, I don't really think it serves a "real" purpose.... But they sound really awesome...
