Brian May, anyone? All those AC 30s and Texas Rangemaster.

Alright, alright, I'm leaving.

Seriously guys...AC/DC??? How can they possibly head a poll for the biggest most dangerous guitar sound??! Angus may have a nice tone but Pantera, Metallica and Sepultura blow it out of the water. It's like comparing a fluffy little dog to a big nasty grizzly bear!

I guess if you like a fizzy, angry bees, cheap DOD distortion pedal type of sound then thats ok. But your "metal gods" bow before Angus in the real world.

H2H

Can't believe i went through 8 pages and only 1 mention of Tom Morello. The first time i heard Killing in the name of I almost pissed myself. For dangerous i would have to go with Tool.I love Angus to pieces but blues riffs are as dangerous as a fluffy bunny.
I hate Metallica

I saw Audioslave live on October 4th this year, and I was REALLY impressed with his tone. I'm not into using effects at all, and as much as I like his music I was never overly impressed with his sound in the studio, but when he started the solo to I Am The Highway the sound filled the arena, it was thick, it was distorted, it was one of those moments where you forget where you are.
Also his tone in the Rage Against the Machine song Bulls on Parade is huge.

dimebag darrels guitar tones are some of the worst ive ever heard....just disgusting shit is what it is......ick.

I voted AC/DC.....so just live with it! :p

When comparing those bands in the list, I find that most of them are relying on heavy gain settings and chuga chuga guitar sounds. IMO, Angus's sound is raw and pure. You can feel the attitude dripping from it. Most of the guitar sounds people are listing as being better are simply gain heavy and from much more agressive music. But since this is a purely subjective thread, everybody is right! ;)

Cyrokk, 1980 also had Iron Maiden,Motorhead,Judas Preist,Black Sabbath. All of which were much heavier, or "more dangerous" than AC/DC.

i have to jump in here and say that much as im a fan of a lot of Maiden,,
they have NEVER EVER had a REALLY heavy guitar sOunds.
its always pretty weak id say,,
and its the bass that gives the sound its "heaviness" factor.
so Maiden have no place in a "dangerous guitar sounds" poll IMO

Some people mentionned Meshuggah and Strapping Young Lad this is also very good."

OH AYE,,,I Forgot about SYL!. tHATS ONE HUGE SOUND!

"This guy's sound was so dangerous that someone had to shot him down on stage to stop him. (I'm joking about this but it's not funny at all... :( )"

Your right mate,,thats not even remotely funny,,,
and you shouldnt have typed it.Im not a fan of the gu in the least,,so if you are im stunned you would even claim to be joking about such a thing.

I didn't vote, but I would have probably picked Angus, too. One thing that possibly explains why Angus is most popular in this poll is because it is a recording forum. Most guys who have tried conventional means (amps and pedals) to acheive maximum saturated distortion on a track know that it always comes out sounding mushy and weak (unless of course you use some kind of amp emulator and that's cheating) and doesn't cut through the mix. The most powerful, reproduceable (on any playback device) distorted sound is clean and fat. Just like Angus gets. So maybe it is the ears attached to the old farts, but it may have to do with this venue and therefore the kind of people that are responding to the poll. I like it jagged without being brittle, and fat without being mushy. Is that too much to ask? And none of that Pod cheater crap - real mic and a real amp.

I HAVE seen AC/DC live....back in 'the day' on the 'Back in Black' tour, even....Funny how Angus was feebly attempting to imitate Yngwie Malmsteen on the 'For Those About To Rock' tour. (Yngwie was opening) Yngwie has that semi-clean crunch going, too....I don't understand why everyone thinks AC/DC is so amazing- they're NOT. But I do wish I could rehash myself endlessly and still make money....

Not too bad for someone 'too young to know any better', Analytical Man....I've been saying the same thing since I was....ahem....younger than YOU! LMAO! Just so you know where I stand on the language, I say fuck 'em if they can't take a joke! Get over yourself, amt7565....we're just BSing here for crying out loud!

Great thread! Great posts! I have these thoughts to add for the sake of friendly argument:
Dangerous guitar tone can be perceived in many ways- and my opinion for what it's worth (nothing- opinions are like assholes- everyone's got one and they usually stink!) follows:
Zappa- a genius way ahead of his time- and still ahead....RIP
Satriani- tone monster!
Vai- No mention of Steve Vai?? Shame on you all !! LOL
Malmsteen- not just a shredder but great tone, too.
Lynch- shame on you all again....LOL
Gilbert- the newer RacerX just rocks- tonally and as a band. Heavy but not completely heavy only for the sake of heavy....
Les Paul- another genius way ahead of his time, without whom none of us would be having this conversation in the first place!

I noticed no one said anything about Slayer....so maybe you're all a bit smarter than expected....LMAO!

Tool

i read through the post (to page 3) and even though my post is really fucking late...i was suprised that i didnt see TOOL in the post, and a lot of ac/dc...WTF...their music used to be pretty cool (some of it anyway)...but Guitar Tone?...maybe i didnt listen good enough. anyway Adam Jones has probably the best guitar tone i have ever heard...is guitar tone is the most dynamic ive heard...its simply amazing...im speechless

I started to read the thread but got bored at page 2 or sumthin', hehehe.

I think a lot of people equal "dangerous sound" to "good tone". I don't like these heavy processed tones anymore, so for me this is not "good tone". but anyway - that's not really the topic, is it?

when I read "biggest most dangerous guitar sound" what came to my mind was whitesnakes "still of the night"... BaBAAAAAAAAAA - weeeeeeeeeeeeeee. It's so damn bright it cuts your brain in two, but then again it's not too itchy.

that's just my eminem... er... 50 cents

Man you left so many worthy dudes out. Rage against the machine and Queens of the stone age come to mind. Those bands have/had awesome guitar tone.
