zakk wylde man..

dream theater's keyboardist derek sherinian's second solo album black utopia KICKED ass....tons of tone

the tracks

-Axis of evil: Wylde and Malmsteen trade solos and both their tones are killer

-Nightmare Cinema: wylde and derek do some cool shit....wyldes riffs are always at best....and his guitar tone...SO alive it made me piss my pants

and

OZZY osbourne live at budokan
wyldes guitar tone...once again...unexplainable
u shud listen to the squeals on crazy train.....i have seen wylde play lots of times live and all of them sound the same...but on budokan..they seem so different

None of the above.

Just about everyone on the list (except maybe AC/DC) has a pretty even, compressed and boring sound that don't strike me as dangerous at all.

My votes go for Neil Young when he goes 11 and sounds like hes about to freaking explode, and Tony Iommi who's always had the most dangerous guitar sound.

That list is a collection of wannabe's.

I will have to go with the Deftones. If you listen to the Adrenaline album that rocks, Especially 7 Words or Engine No.9. When they go heavy it is pretty heavy.
And Sevendust sound is pretty good.

Yeah Neils' single note guitar solos are real fuckin' dangerous.

If we're talking tone (and not how thrashy the Music is) Then I'd have to go for bands like Saliva, Evanescence, and Drowning Pool. I'd love to be able to reproduce that sound.

What??

Nothing could be easier, that is the sound of a PRS into a Mesa amp...

Unfortunately I don't have (and probably never will have) the £££'s to buy a boogie (or a PRS for that matter). And no amount of cab simulation and effects seem to get me that sound, so I'll stick with my original statement. "I'd love to be able to reproduce that sound" :(

Thats it! I'm playing the lottery this week!

huge

Voted AC/DC from the list provided. Sorry guys but you need midrange for your tone to be heavy & I sure do miss it in the 21st century.

That having been said, there sure is some heavy freaking shite on some of those Queens of the Stone Age records, & STP too.

AC/DC of course. How many people can rock so hard with so little distortion. I'm sure some of the metal bands on the list would also choose AC/DC.

I go for Blixa Bargeld (Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds) on The Mercy Seat, the Live Seeds version. No metal but dangerous non the less.

This thread is older than me.

Rammstein gets my vote.

primal fear

Euro metal band called Primal Fear has a really relentless guitar tone, also another Euro metal band called Hammerfall sounds really full and heavy/dangerous.

check them out if you can, very melodic and blistering guitar solos.

...and Larry Carlton, Denny Diaz, Jeff Baxter, Elliot Randall, and all the other Steely Dan session guitarist alumni can smoke any of 'em on your poll list, INCLUDING Eddie and Angus!!! :p

;)

Bruce

Now you know you have to translate "tasteful" into an understandable local dialect....or the natives just won`t know ;)

I remember reading an interview with the Korn guitarists where they claimed that Sepultura stole their sound. I laughed...
if anything they stole more from sepultura than sepultura stole from them. lots of little FX box tricks korn uses for their creepy feel, sepultura did back in the day.

at worst it was give and take from both sides.

add awesome studios - sweet mic pre's and the ability to triple track fully mic'ed up stacks then uv got it - good luck...!

the datsuns should be in there - becuase to me that's just the ac/dc sound taken up a notch or two...

Buzz Osborne

Melvins all the way. Listen to Honeybucket on the Houdini album. Or anything on that album. Or anything on any of their albums!!!
