big trouble

I have a compaq deskpro EN series . The mother board has a audio card built on it. I bougth a midiman delta 2496 and I have a big trouble to install. finally in PCI slot 1 the card working properly , sometimes, usually when restar my machine it is freeze.
I install and unistall a many time , but the problem still on.
Now , any music software worK, no winamp, clean or wavelab, all of them are no sound.
please help me I almost suicide myself!!!

well, be very careful with the installing of hardware.. that you dont get sound at all, is probably because the programs now want use your delta for playback - but that card is probably not installed properly.

so do the following (supposing u r using windows):
1. uninstall all drivers from the delta
2. shut down your pc
3. remove the delta
4. start pc (now windows may do final uninstall-processes to completely remove any information of the hardware - which is necessary)
5. shut down again
6. install the delta again
7. start pc
8. install drivers PROPERLY (sometimes the automatic installer windows uses isnt enough, read the help file/manual on the disk that came with the soundcard..)

Remember you must also go into your BIOS and disable Onboard sound before another sound card will work

If you have an AGP videocard installed it is better to avoid PCI slot No.1 because usually it shares IRQ with AGP. Try a different PCI slot.

Sounds like a resource conflict.. You probably should disable the onboard sound and maybe disable any com/serial ports as most of the time no one uses these any more. If there's an onboard midi enabled, might as well disable that too since the delta has midi ports. That would free up a few IRQs and then like webstop said above don't use the PCI slot adjacent to the AGP. Try one in the middle for the 2496. Also probably have better luck with a middle PCI slot not sharing IRQs. (a tad generized since I don't know the specifics of your mainboard) You might have to move some cards around if you have modem or network cards in the computer to use a middle slot for your 2496.
