Sometimes randomly cubase (vst 32) will act up on me. I will press play and the counter starts going like the audio is playing, but no sound is coming out and no activity is shown on the segment meters in the vst mixer. Also whenever this happens, i will be unable to record because when i try to record a box will come up that says "please record enable track". so i cant listen to my audio and cant record anything! the only thing i know to do is uninstall then reinstall cubase. it has happened several times. help me!

What kind of system are you running? What are your soundcards and hardware specs?

I had a similar problem that would pop up once in a while requiring a reboot. I think I have solved it now but need to work another week on the system to be sure it is solved since it only occured once every few days.

I had a very similar problem with WinXP and VST32 5.1

Mine even went as far as my Aardvark Q-10 mixing page showing no signal input from instruments I had plugged in at the time, and just minutes before were showing signal. A reboot always solved the problem but it was a pain in the ass.

I went to www.musicxp.net on the advice of others at this site. I followed three or four of the suggestions for streamlining my system, that I thought might be applicable to the problem. I have only recorded maybe 4 times since I did this a week ago and it seems to have solved the problem, although at 4 sessions it is a bit early to be positive, but it used to cut out on me probably every other time I was recording and one day it did it like three times which was when i finally went to that website to see if I could solve the problem.

Try the tweeks at the XP site, I think the main one that helped was turning off the native sounds of XP.

Good luck!

When that used to happen to me , some one suggested that I go to options/multirecord and check active. then enable the track(s) you want to record to. and make sure that your VST inputs are enabled in the "panels" section. for whatever reason , i have to repeat this every time i start up, unless i load a song

Unless I misread, it isn't an input problem, it is a problem of the audio shutting off. I was just adding that when the problem hit me it included the inputs of my Q-10 shutting down as well as me not being able to hear the playback of my tune. I assumed that it was a conflict with my Q-10 and it's soundcard and not really a Cubase problem, something was triggering the meltdown but I didn't know what.

It is normal to have to hit multirecord everytime you are going to record more than one track at a time.

Multitrack audio is a somewhat complex afair and sometimes the audio devices get kinda confused in the process. Almost all of the recording programs have a feature like "Reset devices" that shakes the whole audio system and wakes it back up again.

I can't remember where it is VST/32 (I'm away from my studio machine) but I think it is in System -> Audio -> Reset devices.

That can sometimes save you a reboot...and sometimes causes a hard crash. :D

Take care,
Chris
