Hey Folks
Has anyone tried out any of the Beyer Opus range?
A mate runs an AV business and got a few in for stock. I tried out a pair of Opus83 on the weekend and the result.... well.... I want a pair.... NOW!..... It's a small diaphram condensor instrument mic. I tried it first on an accoustic guitar. Very sweet. Picked up the full range and all the "body". Next as overheads on the drums. Crystal clear! Clarity I've only been able to achieve with my tube condensor... and I've only got one of those.
I was going to try it on a guitar cab but ran out of time.
At around $400 aussie they are a similar price to the Rode NT3, and although I haven't used the NT3 I can't see them being any better.
I've also heard this guy use them live (including the Opus81 vocal version) and his PA came to life. Every word was crystal clear. We AB'd them with a Shure Beta87 and IMHOP they Beyer came out in front and at about 60% of the cost of the Shure!
My apologies if this post sounds like an advertisement. I was just so blown away by these things that I thought i'd share it.
If anyone else has tried the Opus condensor range (careful because there are dynamic versions) I'd love to hear you opinions.
