Nice tune. Good groove to it and the vocals are cool. I was hooked right when I hit the play button. Great job!

finally got it today..

good song.. I like the percussion and the sounds are all good.. Is that a mando? I didn't read the other replys yet, but I'm sure it was mentioned.. this is a pretty good mix.. nice acoustic sound.. it has just the right amount of jangle..

I'm hearing some timing issues.. It sounds like it started off, and stayed a bit off.. kinda strange.. I would maybe check that out.. It's screwing with the flow..

I like the tune and the mix though..

dachay2tnr -- thanks for listening...i'm glad you enjoyed the song....as for the drums.....it's a sample, and i couldn't find much to change it up with......so until i get a new drummer to play w/.........the strumming and percussion timing issue is mainly a latency issue i think so i might try dealing w/ it that way, rather than re-tracking

bobbo -- thanks for listening...much appreciated

Sabbath -- thanks for listening man....as i said above, i think i'm dealing with a latency issue that's throwing things off just a touch......i'm hoping that's the case.......i'll see

Oh, and Sabbath, almost forgot to answer the mandolin question........it's actually an acoutic guitar w/ some flange, but played in a mandolin style

I pretty much agree with the previous suggestions and problems... timing, etc. The intro "drums" off to the side where a tad strange too. No stereo reverb for the left side to share??
Also, the sameness of the tune thruout was a negative.
Positives are good "dylanish" singing and good lyrics.

Okay, I just got around to listening to ver.4. Each one seems to get progressively louder, LOL...which is fine, obviously.

The bass still comes in in its own unique way, LOL...but I'm almost used to it at this point. I really don't hear any other timing problems, and haven't for about the last 2 versions, but I'm soooooooooo bad about that myself.

It's a strong tune to me. The droning nature of it really does lend itself to a Tom Petty kind of vocal, which you nailed. Some of my favorite tunes are 2 chords, and you've got more than that. :D :D

SSSAAAAAAYYYYY... that bg vocal is still flat, dang it. Otherwise, I'd call this "done." Oh, and I'm totally gonna' destroy this song in a very bad way, which will be a blast.

Keep writing them...as much as you physically can do it; keep writing.

Chris

mixmkr -- yeah...i might try retracking the guitar again once i get my latency issues worked out.....

chris -- i'll look into the backing vocals....thanks for the final listen........."Keep writing them...as much as you physically can do it; keep writing."......i'm working on that....... got a good new one going tonight........now, allz i need is a good chorus......the hard part

I'm listening to the 6th mix and the timing issues are definitely better.. The only time I noticed a timing issue now was right at the start.. As soon as the acoustic comes in, it still sounds off, but I don't notice it anywhere else in the song.. It's only the very beginning now.. I'm not sure if anyone else will notice.. I like how you made the acoustic sound like a mando.. I get a Dylan/Tom Petty vibe from this.. I'll check back for a version 7.. or maybe you just want to come back to this later after a new song maybe..

I didn't realize I was listening to a remix and I'm thinking "dang these guys are harsh" about the timing issues. Good song. I agree that it would lend itself nicely to a bigger arrangement, but it works nicely sparse too.

sabbath -- thanks for listening again.......yep, i'm gonna put this one away for a while and come back to it again later.....i've had enough of it for now.........thanks for all the help

fprod -- yeah, you were listening to a remix that helped (but not completely fixed) most of the issues........with the latency i was dealing w/, i moved the drums forward 30ms and it seemed to help quite a bit..........thanks for listening

The timing seems pretty right on now. I wouldn't have any complaints at this point about it. The vocals seem louder too...and at a better level. Much better...they are more prominant in the mix. I hear a "mando" (?) strumming at times, and it would be nice to hear that a little clearer. It seems low in level, and I am not actually sure what it is. The intro drums still hit me being weird..panned off to the right like that. When the bass comes in, you understand, but I'd take a little 'spillover' reverb from the intro drums to the left side....to let you know it is a "stereo room" that the music is coming from, and not just an instrument panned over to one side. It would THEN appear the instrument is SITTING in a stereo field on the right side VS just being panned by the twiddle of a knob. Then...(what you've done)...when the music starts, it all jumps to the middle. I've heard this kind of panning (that you've done)before on many productions, but I am thinking this is not the best use of panning here. Or...I'd almost like some movement to the panning....like have the drums pan across from right to left in the begining, rather than be static in one place. I know I am being picky about just this short little segment, but it is the VERY beginning of the song, and determines whether things will continue to be interesting or not.
The drums kinda cut off at the end, and the tune ends in a very peculiar way too. Not sure if it intentional, as there is not really enough 'room sound noise' to let you know or not. So...maybe the ending could be cleaned up, or edited, or make the sound effects of "shuffling around" (are they intentional?? ) more obvious.

This post dwells on the negatives, but you've improved this song immensely, and it shows big time. Your persistance is really paying off and you are getting the rewards.

The Final Re-Mix...

mixmkr -- thanks for the suggestions........i tried them for a final mix......i should call this the mixmkr remix.......

what i did....
1. reverb on the intro drums
2. 1 db up on the flanged acoustic (the mando sound)
3. cleaned up the end a bit.......left in a touch of the room noise at the end, but i intend to clean that up too

thanks to all who helped on this one.........any other suggestions are welcome, but i think i'm done w/ this one for a while

now......time for the super bowl.......

Definitely sounds better. Nice job. Saving this in my keepers over the old one :D

man...that really did it for me on those intro drums. Do I say thanks?:p Kinda a feeling of sumpin'....you ask for a mix tweak, and walla!

Now....go and relax...you deserve it...

Wow,pretty amazing.
This song has blossomed into a pro mix in less than a week!
Great job Drew!

I know your done with it,but could you post the lyrics?
The music and vocals are great, but the lyrics really talk to me,makes you feel something.

Really fine piece of work my friend, you should be proud!

Thanks for sharing it,
Pete

Pete,
everyone's input on this one has been huge. it means a lot to hear that people like the lyrics...it's an honor that you asked...i'd be happy to post them........

Better Days...

Feelin' like the time
that steals away the night
You treat me like a crime
when all I do is treat you right ( when all I do is treat you right)

Like a joker thats been used
I'll try to stay amused
Still wishing like I do
to feed off your abuse (to feed off your abuse)

Ch:
And it's times like these when I wish that I could walk away
cause there's not much more I could say.....
Guess I'll wait for a better day

I'm dealin' like a child
that's learning how to smile
And dreamin' all the while
of better days without denial ( of better days without denial)

Ch:
And it's times like these when I wish that I could walk away
cause there's not much more I could say.....
Guess I'll wait for a better day

This has some Dylan effect on me, but I like it better than anything i've heard of him. Sorry for the bump dude, but i've missed alot of tunes latley. Everything thing sounds fantastic to me, there's some timing issues going on but nothing that distracts my listening at all. Better timing than i have on any of my tunes..so there:D . What a great birthday present..thanks brutha!!

david,
well...i have a hard time believing that.....but i'll take any complement i can get..........

while i absolutely love dylan, i never thought his music heavily effected my style.......i guess i was wrong:D , as many people here seem to throw out that as a comparison.....again, i'll take it

thanks a lot for listening.....i'm glad you got to it..........happy birthday man
