are you blind or stupid? liv_rong already posted this link.

I just figured you were to stupid to read that. I know wikipedia isn't always right, but it says the capsules are similar but not the same. And I'm pretty sure changing the grill and Beta57 to a 58 grill wont make it a Beta58.

if you can afford it, i prefer the beta 87, try that one out

+1 on the Beta 87A ...but,...that's not really what's being discussed here :)

I have all 4 mic's in question... SM and Beta 57's as well as SM and Beta 58's ..

IMO, the regular SM57 and the Beta58 are the best two for "my" voice in a live vocal appication... I originally bought the Beta 57 thinking that it would be like the SM57, only on steroids...that was not the case ...it has a totally different sound... I do like the Beta 57 on Bass amp cabs as well as some drum applications though.

Just my 2 cents..

i wonder : do you have any idea what you're talking about?

All this time I have been using the Shure Beta SM58 but a few weeks ago I decided to go for the Beta SM57a as well.

I think the 57a sounds smoother and really suits my voice more.It also cuts through nicely.

I also like the beta SM58 but I think it sounds a tad harsher the the 57a.
