best way to record with..

i have a behringer 15 watt amp, a dean guitar, and shure mics...what is the best way to record it all using a 2001 gateway computer. should i turn up the volume all the way on the amp...leave it super low??? mic it on the back and the front...do i have to mic it???

How are you getting the sound into your computer? In other words, what is your soundcard/interface?

The sort of classic starting point, assuming you have a soundcard and a preamp, is to mic up the amp with your Shure mic. Move around the mic when someone is playing to find the sweet spot... lots of folks like to mic the side of the cone, but YMMV.
