I am very new to computer recording but I have a question. I have been recording for the last month or so with Reaper and everything has been good except the fact that I plug into the comp's mic jack. My recording software picks this up and records fine but there is a sound lag so I have to mute the input, so I don't hear the way the guitar/bass sounds as it's recording. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should do. Thanks!

The problem you're describing is 'latency'. It's happening because I doubt your stock sound card is deisgned for music. It's probably designed for gaming or audio playback. Start by googling 'ASIO for all' (I think that's the one) and upgrading your drivers to ASIO. I'd really think about getting a USB or firewire interface though, as the mic input on your PC probably isn't the best.

Okay thanks for the fast reply. What would be a good interface to look into. I don't think I need anything too fancy or expensive.
