I'm doing an "audition" for a group here in town and they have asked me to dub keyboard parts onto their CD. I want to do this in Cakewalk as audio vs MIDI because I have to show them I can do this live. (ie don't want to quantize etc...)

So here's the question...

What will give a better sounding result...

1) playing through a powered monitor and micing with a LD condenser mic

or

2) Going straight from the keyboard output into the line-in on the sound card??

I assume if I do #2 I would go into my mic pre first...

Sorry if these questions sound a bit "uninformed" but as I am not really a keyboard player I AM uninformed!! :D Good thing these are simple key parts... :)

Thanks for the help.

A guitar could be prefered to mic. (that's not a correct english sentence, is it? :))
Because the REAL sound of it is partly created by the guitar, and also by the amp/ cabinet.
A normal keyboard amp doesn't change the sound the keyboard produces, so you'll get a better result by just using the Line Out.

Good thing I'm a vocalist....:D

Do I need the mic pre or is the line out signal from the keyboard strong enough??
