I want to sell my CD, but I only have a budget of a 1000$. Should I get my CD mastered and only make a few copies, or should I just get a lot of copies and forget about the mastering? I know my mix sounds pretty good already, and mastering would make it better, but I dunno what is more important. I want CD's to sell at stores and shows. What should I do?

Mastering is gonna cost a big chunk of change.

Were the recordings done in a "pro" studio?

If not, do the best mixes you can and make the extra copies... provided you can sell that many!

Although mastering is a peice of art that really can make a CD stand out, it costs heaps to get it done properly. So when you want to sell Cd's for a small market and when you're short of cash, I'm afraid you'll have to rely on your mixes. I would rather count on my own mixing techniques then let somebody do a cheap mastering.

Your Cd will sound less good than a mastered one, but a guy must walk before you can run, and the reality is that few of us can pay professional mastering.

I agree with what you guys say about mastering. I had mixed a couple of songs by myself and a lot of people really liked my stuff. I'm planing to get a 1000 cause I know I can sell it at my school. Now my question is is it better to get a bundle to sell at shows, or should I sell it on CDBaby and just past flyers with links to the site. I saw a good package deal on globalcd.com, 1000 cd's packaged with glass cd for like 800$. Is that a good deal? Anyone have any places they recommend?

they lowered it to $799 for 1000 but you don't get a booklet so you'd have to print the booklet yourself which is really expensive and package it yourself which is a pain in the ass.
I looks like they are trying to hook customers witha low price for a product they can't easily use. . . unless you don't want a booklet

there are places that will do everything for $1119 for 1000 copies. . .and I would get a barcord too. . .you can get one from CDbaby.com for $20 and either wait to get the stuff printed or attach it with stickers.

It's a lot easier to get stores to carry things that have barcodes

Ok, that's one I don't know:

How do you get a barcode and what's the difference? Doesn't a barcode confirms you paid taxes (VAT) on your selling price?
