Ive got 2 Adats that im still using for tracking. I've been recording each track individually onto my Alesis Masterlink and then burning the CD 24 disc to bring the tracks into Adobe Audition. This way is taking entirely too long.
Im basically looking for something with Adat light pipe in (16 channels if possible) but 8 will work, and Adat Sync would be extremely cool if it only has one light pipe in.
Also needs to be compatible with Windows XP, and have 2 stereo outs for my monitors. Lastly, this is temporary so something cheap (around $200 would be nice).
I've looked into RME and MOTU but they are way out of my budget. EMU has one card for $200 but its only got one channel of light pipe in. I also believe Terratec had some less expensive cards with these options but I can't seem to remember what the models were.
Any ideas? Im planning on upgrading to an Hd 24 at the years end so this is not permanent. I really don't want to blow alot of cash and I dont really need any "extra features"

thanks in advance........

One channel of lightpipe? I would think that that woulod give you 8 channels of ADAT. What model were you looking at?

My bad, i might have been confusing in my post. By 1 channel of light pipe I mean 8 tracks at a time. Basically I need to dump 16 tracks at once, so 2 light pipe inputs.

OK. In your original post you indicated 8 tracks at a time would be good. In your price range you will not find anything that will do 16 channels via ADAT. The 1212M Will do 8 at a time fine.

Except you can't do adat and adobe audition with E-mu because of the current WDM limitation.

I would say go for the EWS Terratec 88D, which can be found for 100-150 bucks. You can use up to four of them system in a system if you want to do more simultaneously.

what is WDM Limitation? Sorry for the ignorance, long day and I cant even think of what it might stand for.

I'll second the 88d, I have two of them and Adobe Audition and they have worked just great for a couple of years now with no problems.

thanks guys I will look into that. Any chance that there is a card with the Adat Sync in this price range?

Adobe doesn't do ASIO?

What Slatkill is referring to has to do with Win32 driver support in the EMU cards.

You have 2 primary types: WDM and ASIO. As I last recall, Emu supports WDM, but not multiclient WDM, which means you cannot get all 8 channels seperately.

However, Emu support ASIO fine, which is what I have been using. If Audition supports ASIO, I think you would be good to go.

It doesn't do ASIO. (At least as of the current version 1.5) Neither does Cool Edit Pro, which is what Audition came from.

Wireneck,

I know you said that RME was out of your price range, however, their selection of cards can be confusing, it looks to me like this one, while at 400 dollars is twice as much as you want to spend, is EXACTLY what you want, it has 2 X ADAT Lightpipe I/O ports for 16 channels of transfer, RME's very well implemented MME multiclient drivers (CEP/AA friendly), and even the ADAT sync port.

I just thought I'd post this in case you hadn't seen this particular card, it's a lot cheaper than the Digiface + PCI card.

:)

I used a hammerfall with CEP and it works very well, 3 ADAT I/O and sync. You might find one second hand.
