I've been using a GT brick and the thing is adding a bit too much filth... I need another option and I was aiming for something sterile.

The top of the budget is $500. I've read good things a out the DMP and the Studio Projects VTB1.. But they seems so inexpensive, I'm leary. Are they as good as anything twice their price? I know I could spend 6 or 7 or 800 and get better, but worlds better?

btw I should add.. I also have a digi002 with pres, and a joemeek VC6Q and a mackie board so I'm looking for something a step up from those.. Is it possible in my price range? I havent turned the joemeek on in years! lol, maybe I should fire it up.. I know its colored, but not so bad if you don't drive it hard.. :)

Anyway, thanks for your input.

For something clean and cheap - Rane MS-1b.

A little higher up would be a Grace 101.

If you want something that has the option to be fairly clean, or can have some balls, I'd get the Great River MP-1NV.

Just about anything that amplifys a mic works for this.

There is a model for an Avalon 737 on the line6 UX2...its in the same price neighborhood as those cheap pres listed above.
