what is the step by step way to get the best vocal recordenz?

STEP BY STEP!!!!!PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!

IM USEN AKG C414 MIC AND DRAWMER 1960 PRE/COMP!

depends on what kind of vocal you are going for. Smooth, hard, dirty, loud, quite, cold, warm. there are 1,000,000 ways. Let us know that and we can help ya out.

look forward to hearing from you.

Have somebody sing -

Plug the mic into the preamp -

Put the mic in some sort of proximity with the vocalist -

Set a level (somewhere around 0dBVU would be suggested) -

Press "RECORD" -

Seriously - Are we in the Twilight Zone here or what?

Um..Acoustic Guitars aint vocals. Having said that different styles require different ways of working, no vocalists are the same. What do you mean you are getting Harse vocals? Too sharp, too upfront, Too Much Distortion? Try turning the pre amp down a bit if its too hot, maybe move the singer back a bit. A bit more info is needed, me thinks.

this is a very interesting thread.

chill with recordenz. thats a lil weird.

recordings?

ok, but yeah. harsh. aka crappy? why would you have a c414 if you need to learn how to record step by step?

very unusual..

Then obviously, you're either recording harsh sounding vocalists, or you're doing something wrong. There isn't any "special magic" to recording a great sound. The idea is to capture that sound without screwing it up.

what is a troll???????

and ya (recordenz)lol........

i think i might have figured out problem !!!!!!!!!

thx for the help /makin fun of me........

alot of advice yall gave me might have worked!!!!!!!!!!!!!

thx again!

here is step by step how to recordz? vocalz?

1) I hope you didn't buy that gear if you don't know how to use it.
2) Give the gear to me...I will use it....correctly.

and my follow up question is this:

I have a vintage U84, and a 96 channel Neve console....

what is a microphone? what is a console? how do I use it and get my money's worth?

When I ran the OP through a phase inverter, here's what I got.

Nobody need tell me how to record vocals. I put out an entire platinum-selling vocal and acoustic album called "Nebraska" from a hotel room with a 57 and a Portastudio.

How dumb are you to get harsh vocals with the top C414??

Guys, never underestimate(or overestimate) someone's knowledge when it comes to this stuff. I have a "rapper" buddy that has all kinds of nice equipment. The last time I was at his house he had an Avalon 737(of course, what rapper wouldn't) plugged into a mackie board, then into his 002r. So my first question to him was "why on earth are you doing this?". The next thing I noticed were his monitors. One was about 8 feet directly to the left of his mixing position facing him the other was on a shelf about 6 feet in the air kind of over his right shoulder. But the funniest thing was his mic. He had a really nice akg I believe it was a 414, sticking thru the the pop filter a good 2 inches or more and on top of that he had it set up as an end address mic. He was literally singing or rapping into the top of the microphone. Some people just have money and toys but absolutely no clue.

Make sure you sing into the front of the 414..

see my sig.. =)

I think you may find the fine folks on here a lot less hostile if you take the time to properly spell out your words and form complete thoughts in your sentences. We have had problems with that in the past, so it's met with automatic disdain.
