SM-57. I used them to record many hardcore bands when I didn"t want the singers anywhere near my good mics. I heard Michael Jackson even used them on certain songs. Greg
I believe it was the Shure SM-7 that Michael used on "Thriller". I have one of Bruce Swedien's SM-7s and it stays on a stand 24 hours a day. I've use it many times for vocals, preferring it over a ribbon or a condenser mic. Same thing with the Beyer Soundstar Mark II. As always, it depends on the singer and the song.
Mastermindzz, an excellent all around "pop" mike is the Sennheiser e835,
it reproduces the "high end" of vocals better than a Shure SM57 or 58.
For blues or R & B ala Stones, however, go for the SM57 or 58 as they
have more "bottom". (Has anyone else compared the Sennheiser to
the Shure microphones?-I've got the e835 & SM57).
P.S. I've noticed that the e835 has more signal output than the SM57.
