I have been saving up some money and got about 1000 dollars. I need to buy a mic amongst other things and am looking for a good mic $400 or cheaper. I have heard that Condenser is the way to go for studio vocals

I was thinking about a Rode NT1-A, or a Rode NT-1000. I am planning to do rap and some vocals with the mic. I have low - medium sounding voice, but I want to get some female vocals on some tracks. Does anyone got some reccomendations

thanks

If you can't get answers on here, being that the majority are rock artist and not rap artists, I'd advise you to ask this question on a good rap sites audio help department, preferrably rapmusic or rapbattles. Rapmusic is your best bet being that it's the biggest rap forum online.

There is no mic specifically for rap, find one that suits your voice and other voices you are recording. The Rodes may or may not suit - you'll never know until you try them.

Um, we have a whole forum dedicated to rap and hip-hop, oh sir of all of, what, 20 posts?.......

If the OP really wants to believe that there is a best vocal mic for rap, he might want to post that question there. I am not sure that there are many here who subscribe to that belief.

You get some points for having a budget that can be worked with. You lose points for not searching. This topic has been covered too many times here.

THERE IS NO GOD DAMN BEST MIC FOR RAP!!!!

Dynamic mics are the way to go here...SM7 is used by more spitters and not dammaged...trust me here and dont even try the condensers.

Whenever anyone asks for an equipment reccomendation, the first two questions asked are 1) what's our budget? and 2) what kind of stuff are you planning on doing with it? While it's true there's no best mic for rap, there really is no "best" mic for any kind of music. He's just asking for help based on a few relevant details, including his budget, the kind of voice he has, and yes, the type of music he plans on making.

um, we also have a whole forum dedicated to microphones.

That being said, I agree with the sm7, but you also might want to try an at4033 since you're planning on recording female vocals too.

Last week, I recommended that one mic over there for rap vocals.

However, this week I have changed my mind, and will now be recommending this one other mic over here for the time being.

You are going to upset Sal.

You guys make me sick (excluding the helpful ones of course).

Just accept other people's music will you? So you play rock and they don't, so what? It's all music, it's all art, and it all needs recording.

PS. Another vote for SM7 here...

erm point of information,

the OP stated quite clearly (don't quote me) rap, vocals & some female vocals

I sighed the same gasp when I saw ANOTHER RAP MIC THREAD but the OP was fairly straight up & deserves a reasonable answer

I'm no fan of rap, hands up. But I do think there's a time & a place for venting the ol' rap spleen, give the guy a break

I'm hooked on the neumann KMS105 just now so that's my 0.02p

we see this thread a lot. a lot a lot.

its not a rap issue. its a n00b issue. and when every n00b signs up to ask a question that is genre specific, a generalization of that genre is formed.

so many times i try and open my mind to the rap artists on the board every time....

"i gotta see your thighs, i gotta see your thighs
all them motherfuckers in the club with the bitches"

etc...

this coupled with the undending question for the perfect "spittin" mic, has driven us into a focused frustration

Had you properly read my post, you would have noticed that I was not directing my flame against rap.

Tell you what, here's what I recommend. Go to your local music store and see if they'll let you test out some mics, making it clear that you're intent is to buy. Then you'll know which mic suits you best. There are a bunch of good mics now in the $400 range, so it's hard to give recommendations over the internet without hearing your voice. All we can give you are some things that have worked for other people in the past. This is a topic that has been covered more in this forum than any other question, hence my (somewhat) irrational comment.

I was responding specifically to the statement "being that the majority are rock artist and not rap artists..." by Window Road.

Hey, butthead, I was responding to the statement "being that the majority are rock artist and not rap artists...." By Winding Road. Can you clowns not read??????

AND the statement "There is no best mic for rap" is not a diss, it is a statement that say "music is music". Grow up.

Geezus.

You might want to check out the AT4040, or just the AT seriers for that matter (Audio Technica). I hear they're very versatile mics, you can search this site for them and find out yourself.
