hey thanx mate :D

So heres the list:

Joemeek JM27 (drum OH)
ADK SC-1 (drum OH)
AKG D112 (kick and bass)
and:

EITHER

SM57

OR

E835

For keyboard, guitar amp, vocals.

BUT...

WHICH ONE OF THOSE 2 SHOULD I GET? I am thinking more of the E835 (much cheaper) but if anyone thinks that the SM57 has huge advantages over it that outweigh the 20 quid extra cost, I will happily listen.

And I realize that I need a preamp, but if I can get a soundboard for cheaper, should I? Will it serve the same purpose?

And, I know I keep saying this, but you guys are really helpful. Thanks again :)
I hardly use 57s any more cos of the E835s and E845s I have now. They sound quite similar except for having a bit more high end. They're also extremely well-built (some of my E845s have been been gigging weekly for four years and they are un-dented and barely scratched).

If you get an interface with a half-decent preamp or four in then it might work out cheaper. Let us know what kinda things you're thinking of and we can point out other things that are better again. :) :)

Well, here's the summary so far:

The mics are shown above (the E835 instead of the SM57)

I have access to a spare room (but I don't have the resources or space to have a separate control room/studio I have to do it all in the same room)

I'm sure I can get hold of some plywood to make basic acoustics.

We will be recording a keyboard, bass guitar, electric guitar, drums and vocals, playing rock and hard rock.

We cannot do anything too permanent or specialized as the equipment has to be moved out occasionally (but the acoustics can probably stay).

One of my mates has a soundboard that he doesn't use much, so I reckon I might buy it off him, if he lets me, as I don't want to be spending 600 quid on a decent preamp. Do you think it is worth a try, or should I shell out for a firepod? This guy tends to use decent equipment, so the mixer probably won't be shite.

I have worked out that if I get all those mics new, I will have to fork over 252.98 pounds. I intend to eBay it, which should bring the cost down to about 190 pounds.

Has anyone got any ideas to improve this?

We need to know specifics on the stuff you're considering from your mate ... although the Firepod should be a good buy.
