Best turntable sampling technique?

I have an 002, and I'm wondering what I can do to get the cleanest signal path to it from my table. Do I:

1) Go through a mixer? RCA outs don't seem like the best idea, but then again that's how the signal leaves the table.

2) Get RCA to 1/4 cables and plug it right into the interface? I don't think tables are at line level, so I'm not sure how well that would work.

3) ...?
 
You need a phono preamp for the best quality. DJ Mixers have them built in so do older receivers and there are stand alone preamps.
