Best Sound Card Deal???

Hello

I'm new to the forum and in the process of transfering my recording operations form my old Gateway 2000 to a newer(2001)
Dell Dimension 4300 Pentium 1.6 GHz. I haven't done any research on soundcards lately and would like some recomendations from you that are keeping up with the latest on what the best deal going(The mostest for the leastest) on good quality sound card for doing combined midi/digital tracks mixing down to an on board CDR. I'm thinking this Dell sound card may
not be cutting the mustard. It's called "Integrated Audio with
Soundblaster Pro 16 Compatatibility" on the general specs. Is any body familiar with this Dell sound card? Anyway I would
appreciate some recomendations and maybe some links to

I printed out the link page and checking out the details.
The $200.00 price tag looks good. Is the 24 bit DSP
for processing midi or digital audio??? I need reverb on
my midi drum tracks. I'm sure it does, I'm just not sure what
part of the spec is covering that issue. Thanks a Bunch!!! Bob

I'm a guitar player/singer. My main thing is to create midi tracks
that support my digital lead & rythem guitar/vocal tracks. So I
usually only need one analog input to do that and record one track at a time. It would be nice to have an analog stereo input but Digital Orchristrator Pro don't support recording stereo recording so I've been building stereo tracks from two mono
tracks. I really need to upgrade my recording software, I just
hate the learning curve required to break in to a new program. I noticed some sound card pakages include recording software
so that may be something to look at. I have done a lot of recording creating my midi tracks with a keyboard but last couple
of years I've been using Jammer Pro 4 which lets you plug in
selected rythem sections with you own cord progressions selections. So I build my rythem section in Jammer, export it
to DOP to add digital tracks. I've been doing all my mixdowns
to standard cassett. I just bought my daughter a new lap top
for school and inherited her two year old Dell with a CD burner
so I'm try to transport my operations to the new computer. The audio outs in the Dell are not in a normal sound card but in another place on the back of the computer so It's got me wondering how this thing is set up and I can't find any documentation on it. I assume it will take another sound card in
spite of the other inputs/outputs??? Anyway that's pretty much
my story and what I'm trying to do. Just want to get my music
on CD in good quality production without spending an arm and a leg. Har!!! Thanks, Bob

You should be able to disable the Dell onboard sound and install the drivers for the new sound card and be done. A lot of MOBO's come with sound that you have to disble when you install a pro card.

I'm not sure about this but you might not even have to disable the onboard sound. You might get away with installing the new card and confuguring your sequencer to use the new drivers.

You shouldn't have any problem so go get that good sound card.

special connections with Lake Charles Music here in La and I
think I may can get it even below the $199. but then I will
have to pay tax!!! We'll see how it balances out???

I heard form Voyetra today who make Digital Orch Pro and they
sent detailed instructions on how to mix down to a wav file so
I'm going to give it a shot and see if that does any good.

I'm going to read up on what little Dell sent to see what they
say about installing a new sound card. I may have to call them.
I've already tried e-mailing them with no response.

I say before making a decision you should check out the Audiophile 2496. It's around $150, and I think it'll do the job nicely for you. I have one, and it sounds great, very bulletproof too. Zero problems.

I found it in my musicans Friend Cat. for $179.99. Will this card
allow you to apply reverb/chorus to your midi tracks? Where can
you get it for $150.00??

The use of effects will be dictated by your software, not the AP 2496. Now, I'm not big into recording MIDI, so there may be a better card for that out there (I wouldn't know), but for recording digital audio, the 2496 is the best peice of gear for the money I have.
 
if the number of inputs and outputs aren't a priority i would get a lynx one...has 2 in & outs as well as midi....you can find them on ebay for like 300...sonically anything in that price range doesn't compare

so save up!...it isn't much over your current budget...it'll be worth it IMO...

I ran a copy of the specs and marked the probable
e-bay price at $300.00. I'm comparing specs on several
models already recomended on previous post. I need
to kind of educate myself all over again on sound cards
because it's been several years since I bought one and
things has changed a bit since then. You right about spending
a little more money and getting something worth while.
Anything as serious as your own personal recordings
needs to be as well as you can make it. Thanks, Bob
 
Audigy 2 Platinum, need best price

Hello

It's been a long time since I posted on this but I have
continued to search but after much evaluation considering
my personal need I have decided on the Audigy 2 Platinum.
I am now shopping for the best price. The best so far has
been $153.20 and about $163.19 with shipping from thenerds.net and is in stock presently. If anybody can find a better price please let me know. I appreciate all the help and advice you guys provided. It sure helped!!! I ordered my
software upgrade for Voyetras Digital Orchristrator Pro to
Record Producers Deluxe today. Soon as I get to the bottom
line on this sound card price I'm ready to order and get this
