Some of the best guitar solos I've ever hear...

--Quicksand Jesus - Skid Row
--Painkiller - Judas Priest
--Mama I'm Coming Home - Ozzy

I think these solos were the best....

Neil Young - "Cinnmon Girl"

One single perfect note.

Shit, you beat me to it.

Neil Young solos are for the people cause all people can do 'em.

The thing I hate about these types of threads is that you always get the damned Chili Pepper fanatics to come out of their caves. Gawd.

Very hard to answer with so many greats out there.

Two of my many favorites:

VH-1st solo in "So this is love?"
VH-"Feel your love tonight"

Forgot to add my 2 favorite instrumentals:

SRV-"Lenny"
Joe Satriani-"Flying in a blue dream"

Ian Moore-Leary's Gate
Ian Moore-Coming Around
U2-The Fly
U2-Bullet The Blue Sky
Jimi Hendrix-All Along The Watchtower

I gotta go with anything from Zappa.Comfortably numb rates as the most mainstream and I love Knofflers Sultan of swing lead. How about Joe Walsh on Lifes been good?Eruption is a masterpiece

I love so much music that I don't know if I can define just one- really. It's too structured a question for me. But I'll give it a generic shot. Forgive me if I don't adhere to the question directly.

Of course, EVH's solos on any of the first six albums. I mean, he was just so into his element. He had something to say as he was still struggling with Roth so much. It was just awesome work.

Vai's Flex-able CD is great also.

John Mayer is a Monster. I don't care if he is considered bubble gum. His blues stuff... as boring as it is (sorry folks, I don't like blues)... is really good.

I love a lot of Lindsey Buckingham's solos. He doesn't play with a pick and yet he wails. I don't have that kind of talent. He amazes me.

Eric Johnson is great also.

I'm sure people are tired of reading my post. I'll stop here.

another one came to mind:
unforgiven/metalica

I'm not a fan of the newer metalica, but for some reason this is my favorite hammet solo.

Kirk Hammet does not play that solo, it's Big Bad James Hetfield on that one!

In the rockier vein, many of the above, plus...

Steve Howe, the first few blazing minutes of Close to the Edge.

Almost any solo by Steve Morse. (I never learn most song names.)

But if we open the discussion up to jazz, that's another story. Pat Metheny would start my list, with many in line.

Or country... Chet Akins and... Or...

J.

I dont believe you can ever puta "best" on something, because what everyone posts here are opinions.

While i respect steve vai and his load-blowing solos (haha)
I really love Mr. Crowly...gotta respect Randy anywhere he deserves it.

SRV's little wing was really great too.

and if you guys want "out there"...check out some power metal, in the form of "Ark" or "dragon force"....it'll blow you away, i garauntee.

Well, that's me well and truly told. I bow down before your superior wit and taste, O great one.

And why would I know how to tune a guitar? That's what my tech's for. You'll be suggesting I should buy my own beer and wipe my own ass next.
I was'nt talking about you.I was talking about Reed.Has nothing to do with
wit or taste. The guy does'nt know his instrument.A fitting hero for the likes
of Father Time.

A list where Jack White is 14th and EVH is 70th and Vai isn't even on the list, or Eric Johnson, or Satriani, or...

Ya, Ok, Jack White

Ty Tabor of King's X
Over My Head off of Gretchen goes to Nebraska.... man that guy can really play.

robert fripp's work on brian eno's "baby's on fire"

Actually that wasn't Fripp. Fripp's not on that album. I think that's the guy from Roxy Music doing that solo. I can't rememner his name. BUT I love Fripp's solo on St. Elmo's Fire by Eno.
