Hey All !!

I'm new around here.

At home I have a average mixer and a Boss BR 1180 digital recorder. Sometimes I would like to take the 1180 with me for recording at some friends places. My mixer is rack-mounted and I'm looking for a small one ( say, 4 mics/guitars and 2 lines ).

So, what do you guys recommend for a small mixer? I would like a very hi audio quality unit. Does not need to be battery powered and, as it is small, budget is no problem. Quality is.

Any help?

I own a makie 1202 and it is a great mixer to take on the road with you.

It has 4 mics in and I think 4 lines in. The preamps in it are about the best you will find (unless you get outboard pre's). The only thing it's missing is faders :(

Hahahahhaha, I wish budget wasn't a problem for me... I just had to bum $75 off a friend to buy my new 24/96 dio on eBay.... If it really isn't a problem, you wouldn't mind sparing alittle change for a fellow studio addict? ;)

Good luck,

Chris

Dear Track Rat !!

Thanks a lot !! You gave me even the links. Very kind, and thanks for sharing.

How do you compare Makie and Soundcraft?

Dear Chris !!

Budget IS a problem. But as we are talking about SMALL mixers, I thought I could go a little furder...

Do not forget to read the correct fraze: "as it is small, budget is no problem" ehehe

Chris, thanks a lot for your help !!

I think that the Soundcraft has better mic preamps for sure. I don't know how road worthy they are, not that they aren't, I've never went out and gigged with one. I gigged with a 1604 for many years and I was real happy with it.

Would have to agree with Track Rat. The soundcrafts mixers use the same design pres found in their high end ghost boards and are excellent quality. I used the Powerpad mixer for a year and when I go back and listen to the vocal tracks they are very clear and warm. I am currently scanning for another low end Soundcraft board on ebay if that tells you anything.

The downside to Soundcrafts vs Macke are the Aux returns. The older Soundcrafts tend to have 2 Aux returns which is just not enough for external gear. The mackies tend to have more options in the lower price range but I cannot get by their sterile preamp sound. My opinion, others may vary.

Depending on your budget the new Soundcraft M series make for great small studio mixers. They have expanded the Aux bus to 4 and the reviews are quite good. Tubedude will want to chime in here if he is around. He and several others have the M8. I am probably going to pick up a new M4 if I do not find something better on ebay this month.

Thanks guys !!

Looking for a new mixer! Next one will be Makie ou SC.
