Hi guys, noob question here. I'm basically looking for an easy to use (and preferably free or cheap) program that will allow me to record audio and compose drum tracks. I'm using an M-Audio 1010 card, and have been using Cool Edit Pro for my band demo projects. However, I have been fiddling with drum loops for a long time, importing them in and putting guitar tracks over the top and wish to get a bit more adventurous now recording my own metal project. I want something that I can record my guitar, bass and vocal tracks into, and that I can program drums in using the .wav samples I have collected, as making loops in other programs then importing them into Cool Edit Pro is a bit cumbersome. I'm not super familiar with plugins etc. but am willing to learn, so if there are other solutions that you think are better, could you please tell me.
Thanks very much in advance to anyone who replies.

Oh and by the way, I would rather program in drum tracks then play them live using a keyboard, electronic drum kit etc.

try the free hotstepper for making quick drum tracks using real wav samples of drum sounds you can get from pro drum sound cd's you can buy
with loads of samples.
if you want great low cost multitrack recording software .....
fasoft.com n track, pgmusic.com powertracks (lots of drum styles built in),
multitrackstudio.com or magix music studio which i love from magix.de
i use both the magix and powertracks products together with hotstepper which gives me together more recording features than i ever need.
for less than 100 bucks. there is also the free krystal and audacity
and something i came across recently called music studio independence.
