good converters and high sample rate aren't necessarily directly related...i bet lavry's at 24/44.1 sound better then wami rack at 192 for example....
i'm getting an accel HD3. the digi192I/O sounds great.. the dynamic range of it is very smooth.. i'm only gonna tracks that need 32 or less tracks at 192.. other than that everything will be 48 or 96.. at 48 i can get 192tracks at 96 i can get 96.. i really don't need more than 64.. just depends on the song.
later i'm gonna pick up the ROSETTA 800 seeing that it works with the HD

the dealer i'm getting the stuff said they'll let me try the vipre vs the focusrite session pack.. they said most ppl that use the kiwi for vox like the session pack over a lot of other pres.. and they're only gonan charge me 1200 for session pack...

you can do 32 track @ 192...egads how many native plug-ins are you running? and what kind of computer do you have?

or is it the dsp of the hd3 your using? are you getting the newer accel cards?

The Vipre or the Focusrite with a Blue Kiwi with an LA2A gives me gear envy. Congrats on whatever you finally get.

has nothing to do with the computer.. its the accel hd3 dsp.. the hd3 system is tdm not native..
as for my daw its a xp2500 clocked to xp3200 right now.. i also have a dual xeon 3gig machine i will make my main daw for the hd3.
as for my personal use with the accel hd3.. i had a orchestra ensomble with around 32-36 tracks tracked 24/96 over 50 plugins and it didn't do anything to the hd3 system.. just warmed it up... i've never been a huge fan of pt.. even the mixplus systems.. but the accel hd3 system is crazy.. a little price but not to bad seeing that i'm not paying for it.. my partner is..

the Accel hd3 system,16i/o 192 interface, midi interface, control 24,a desk for the control24, blue kiwi, and focusrite.. i'm sitting at $25,000.... not to bad... a hell of a lot more than my nuendo 2.1 setup.. but you get what you pay for. the dealer is giving me such a good price.. he said the more i buy the more he knocks off my overall price..
i still want a pair of 1032's too and perhaps dual 19inch lcd monitors

let me know if your partner wants to buddy up with someone in NY :D

I realize that the choice is pretty much made at this point but I would like to throw something out there for others that may be looking at this thread. I have searched hi and low for awhile to get something that would be quality yet economical. From all of the professionals I have talked to, and from reading on these sites I have come to the conclusion that the most important thing you need concerning a pre is that it is a great preamp. What I mean is that you are going to have a lot of different tonal varieties which is good to have, however I feel it would be better to have two channels of very good pre, than 10 channels of budget pre's. Even though they would give you more variety, I think a John Hardy M-1 would give more professionalism to the overall sound. I would like to hear comments on this statement. No I have finally ended my search (for my current needs), and am going with a rack of Old School Audio pre's. Check out Dale's site (www.oldschoolaudio.com) to get the whole scoop, and search on R.A.P. and here for more). Nathan who posted earlier (atlas pro audio) is a fan. I have not had the opportunity to hear these yet so you can take this with a grain of salt, but I have yet to find anything negative about these pres anywhere. They are mainly based off of the API pre's but only one is really that close. He has 4 main versions:

MP1-C This is the vintage style that is very similar to API, some say identical in sound to the 312's that Brent Averill racks.

MP1-A Kind of like the C version but with an extended high end, and less of a bunp in the mids. Said to be a great work horse that works on about anything.

MP1-L This has the Lundahl 1538XL input transformer and has huge lows, mids, and silky highs. This has been compared to the Averill neve style pre's with a clearer high end.

Who have to buy a rack first which will house any API 500 series modules, and then you can just keep popping in new modules as you need them. with upcoming EQ's, 3 new compressors, and a new class A pre this box can become one of the most versatile options out there. His 8 channel box is around $500, and each module around $450 It is by no means a budget pre, but can save some bucks down the road every time you want to add another channel or new color.

To see more info on them talk to Nathan and look at his review for these three pres. Dale is currently building me an 11 module rack with 2 A series, a C, and an L. I will let ya know how they are when I recieve them. I have no affiliation with Old School Audio but I just want to get the word out a little bit.

ok i'ma get the
Blue kiwi
Groove tubes Vipre
LA-2a
i'ma have an awesome vocal chain..
i can't wait to hear the sonc quality tracked at 24/192 :D

Just curious as to why you wouldn't go for a Distressor over the LA2A? The LA2A is a one trick pony, actually a very good one trick pony, but the general consensus is that the Distressor is highly versatile.

I thought the M-1 sounded the best out of the entire Listening Sessions tests on Dot's web site.

It's tough to say, though. So much subtlety and subjectivity in choosing mic pres.

"yes you should contact fletcher.
he will tell you that the universal audio is(and this is a quote from him)a "fuzz box".
i talked to him when i was getting a pre and he told me (along with many people on this board)to try the great river or a phoenix audio and i choose the great river and i am very pleased with it."

curious. Didn't Feltcher design Meek stuff? Let's try a multiple choice question: "is the Meek equipment more like-

a) a fuzz box
b) a wire with gain

He must have had some falling out with universal audio. The 2-610 rules. Why didn't he mention Millennia for the clean stuff? hmmmm, he doesn't sell that either. Don't you folks realize nubs is here for ya?

Sweetnubs,

You are confusing Fletcher with Ted Fletcher. Fletcher is in Foxboro, MA. Ted Fletcher is in England, I believe. Very confusing, I'm sure. I have the same problem. To me, all white people look alike.

the Distressor , i never looked into it. i just know how good the la2a sounds.. give me a link

oh yeah that's right. Freakin' white people all look the same to me too. That compounded with the acid i take makes name recongnition very difficult for me. Especially when it involves characters I am generally disinterested in. Anyhow the 2-610 is a great preamp. The "1176" on the "6176" doesn't sound quite right to me though. It's not bad but it doesn't sound like a copy of the 1176. watch out for the gear pimps.
